View Full Version : LCCC Arctic Monkeys. What to do, what to do...
EdnaKrabappe 20-07-2007, 06:37 Ok just one week to go to this brilliant gig. Japanese Beatles, Supergrass:D, The Coral:cool:, Amy Winemerchants :gag: - probably her throwing up - and the Arctics:love:! I'm so giddy!
Who is going and how are you transporting yourselves there? (We need inspiration and ideas for this.)
Contemplating catching the train and staying out all night.... South until three and then need to go somewhere until quarter to eight for first train home. ... any suggestions Manchester people?:D:help:
Can't get a hotel all booked ages ago. Can't get a campsite which was our original plan. Otherwise it looks like two cars going and quite frankly i'd like a drink. There is a minibus going but it's £20 a head and going from nowhere near where any of us live so would still mean driving which negates the need for a lift in first place (Drink being the overriding factor!)
Go by train, get rip-snortingly drunk, and try to cop off with one of the Japanese Beatles? There's a plan!:D
stussonicos 20-07-2007, 08:48 My only advice would be that if your going to end up driving make sure you park as far away from the venue as possible, there are loads of carparks close by but they are a nightmare to get out of. Went to see Foo Fighters last year and it took us nearly 3 hours to get out of the carpark, you'd be much better off parking up a mile or so away and then walking the rest.
Sarah1982 20-07-2007, 09:34 What about a youth hostel?! it's only the night, bound to be something free?

Can you give me details of the minibus you mention - it's probably full by now but maybe worth a try for us. Thanks!

Im going too - cant wait!!
One question - can you buy booze in there?!
yes you can but its really expensive and its hard trying to get past 50,000 people just for a pint, im taking bozze to drink while in the que, you can have one of mine if you are lucky :hihi:
Sarah1982 23-07-2007, 14:30 I'll be sure to look out for you!
We're going by minibus, so will have beers for the bus, can you get drink in, or does it have to be sneaked in im guessing?
I'll be sure to look out for you!

the last time i went people were drinking while in the que but you get searched before you go in so it'll be impossible to sneak some in, so if you or your mates are planning on taking drugs into it then stick em in your socks cos you have to empty your pockets
(im not implying you take drugs but some people do)

thanks for the tip!! Im a bit of a pro at getting booze in festivals - just never been to the LCC before. Im going to get a box of wine - if you drink some on the bus, take it out of the box, and then the bag of wine is pretty easy to have at the bottom of bag of under your jumper!

could you carry my drugs into the gig with your wine? you'll get 10 english pounds for your services :hihi:
Sarah1982 23-07-2007, 15:59 10 pounds!!! That'd be worth a few years behind bars....
Think i'll stick to the wine up the jumper trick tho!
I'll be sure to look out for you!

Are you getting a minibus there and back? I've been quoted about £90 each way (six people) - seemed a bit steep to me! Where have you booked yours from?

Ooh thanks for that tip lol! LCCC was quite hot, last time i went I got frisked (That was for the Move Festival 2 summers ago).
Starsparkle for Venger's appalling ignorance:rolleyes: I'll turn back into an Alex.
Nubb, it's Pussycat's bloke's mate who is doing the minibus and it's going from Greasbrough area of Rotherham.
Think Pussycat (love her) is driving a car now along with another of my mates and we are going to park at her mates house in Trafford and then decide from there what we are doing. I can ask re the minibus but I doubt it as we gave up places a few weeks ago.
Samm - do you have many family get togethers? lol:love:
Feargal's idea is quite cool as well. :D
sammsufc 23-07-2007, 16:49 Samm - do you have many family get togethers? lol:love:
tbh..... he very rarely has time to visit family :(
Cant wait till saturday!!!

We're staying in a hotel :) I can't wait. :D
Theres some issue with the trams that night isn't there? I got an email from someone (venue/See tickets..can't remember) saying we had to get buses out to the cricket ground. Best re-read it all before I set off...:help:

I hope everyone just enjoys it for what it is and doesn't act like idiots and be rude. (you know what I mean...) I always get confused what people are saying when they start chanting York- shire York - shire. It sounds very much like something else!
Well we've now got to try and avoid two lots of people. Yes i know it's a big place but you always see people you don't want to!

Oh yes. Never wear a white tshirt! Say it to yourself in the gig drawl and you'll realise! Not what you'd say really to one of your favourite bands. Hope it's a sunny day... I get so mardy when it rains at gigs.

EdnaKrabappe 29-07-2007, 16:30 Well what was it like...
Traffic was a nightmare over to Manchester took over two hours...
So we missed the Parrots (could hear them up the road)
Missed the Winehouse as it took 1 hour and 25 minutes:o to get served at the beer queues... but once they'd finished Winehouse's extensive order, the queues did go down a bit....
Coral were good definitely going to see them again, Supergrass were good but we were quite a bit back, and drank 6 pints in a very short period of time which probably wasn't a good idea! We had a right laugh with the people round us, lost half our party for half of the time!
It was like Sheffield on tour, saw loads of people who i know from down town and people who you know to nod at. Saw the bloke from the videos Stephen Graham and some bloke who was famous but i've no idea who he was (getting old!)
Funny when the power went off during Balaclava. 'you're not singing anymore'.... poor Alex, they obviously still had sound on the stage as he was talking and some bloke had to come on and tell him.
Anyway it was worth it but I still maintain they should have done it at Don Valley.
butterflylou 29-07-2007, 16:46 I went to the gig yesterday - didn't hit any traffic there or back which I was amazed at.
T'artics were fab, quite impressed that Winehouse made it more or less on time and wasn't that bad either.
Had a mint time.... ive just got back after spending the day in Manchester... was tempted to get another ticket and go again!! Shame about the poor the having set up with the bars... that was a total utter shables!!
Highlight: 505
Second highlight: Nikki Graham from Big Brother making herself look like a total fool and getting covered in ****!
sammsufc 29-07-2007, 23:03 it was a fantastic day out on the 28th, the arctic monkeys were brilliant.
shame bout prices and stupid idiots who think its clever to throw cups of beer (god hope it was beer) into the crowd
EdnaKrabappe 29-07-2007, 23:10 Second highlight: Nikki Graham from Big Brother making herself look like a total fool and getting covered in ****!
Were you in the golden circle? Heard off the forums that she was there and getting pelted with all and sundry... :o:cool:
My bizzare highlight was some woman dressed head to toe in bleached denim (just as the Winehouse had gone off) throwing an absolute fit outside! She was shouting, "What are all these people doing on my garden?" Then she went around hitting people with a rather large red handbag. It was like some sort of barbaric torture! How one poor guy held his temper I've no idea!
My monkeys highlight was the singing of the first line of the Riverboat song... I see trouble up ahead... wish they'd done a cover although to get Plastic Tramp was ace!
If you think that was beer.... your wrong
EdnaKrabappe 29-07-2007, 23:12 If you think that was beer.... your wrong
Yeah brings a whole new meaning to Riverdance:o
I was at the front... she got pelted with everything people could get theee hands on!! Then to top it off , i huge cup of steamy hot yellow wazz slapped her in the face!!
Sarah1982 30-07-2007, 09:01 Poor Nikki from BB!!
I went on the Saturday, ended up on a mini bus, we left sheffield at 11.30am, didnt have any traffic problems. Ended up drinking for a few hours at a pub near the grounds, so was pretty bladdered by the time i got there!
The bar and toilets were awful, ive never waited so long for drink!!
Had a very drunken, great time tho, brilliant gig!
EdnaKrabappe 30-07-2007, 11:14 [QUOTE=EdnaKrabappe;2485461]
Saw ... some bloke who was famous but i've no idea who he was (getting old!)
QUOTE]
Ah it was the bloke from the Leave before the lights come on video and his son... I was sent across as one of our party thought it was Liam Gallagher... and what was more worrying is i had to go right up just to make sure it wasn't...my eyesight's getting worse!
Having read loads on the Arctic Monkey's forums now, there are people who were really concerned about the danger of the beer queues and these are people who go to lots of gigs. Also it sounds like there was a hell of a lot of fighting.
LCCC need to sort it out before they host a gig of the same size again. Also i agree there were probably lots of fake tickets there as it did seem very very full and the stands were full as well. There are also die hard fans who've said it was the worst gig they've ever been to. I must admit i was drunker than i intended to be so i can't quite quantify that aspect of it but it's a shame when the lads wanted to put on a great show that the security and drinks management people let them down. :|
I enjoyed it though
Tanya T 1 30-07-2007, 12:19 I went to the concert on Saturday. We set off at 10am and didnt hit any traffic! it was a fantastic day, the Artic Monkeys were excellent so was the atmosphere! Could have stopped to watch them again on Sunday!!:hihi::hihi:
I went on Saturday and had a fantastic time. We got to the very front of the 2nd barrier so got an amazing view and we could still hear them playing when the sound went off :)
I got very very squashed and covered in beer/wee :suspect: but it was worth it. I think Alex spotted me too! He said "Is that girl comfortable over there?" while looking straight at me.. so I put my thumbs up and he said "Ah, she's Ok"..
The queues were rubbish.. I gave up trying to get to the bar.. and the loos were a nightmare. But at least it didn't rain!
My highlight was Do me a Favour .. which is a beautiful song..
Afterwards we walked into town and went to the indie nightclub 42nd Street which was right on the doorstep of our hotel :) And it was full of lovely friendly people and they played some Arctic Monkeys tracks and the place went mental! Loads of fun :D
I wished I was going sunday too. Definitely the best AM gig I've been to and I've been to quite a few now.

CaptainChaos 30-07-2007, 20:11 I was there saturday, did anyone see the 25 stone moose lose her jrans near the food stalls, then collapse with pimpled lardy corned beef rashed arse on show, the two coppers come and move her somewhere safer, and one managed to completely remove her kex in the process.
Its the closest I've been to a 25st growler, and I wouldn't recommend it at all.
I do feel sorry for the bloke from Birmingham who was next to the ice cream van, i was trying to carry not very cheap pints through a massive crowd of 50000 people and dropped one a not very happy man... infact he was a total t***er... as he turned round and smacked the bloke next to me... it was my fault... i am sorry and if i hadnt got 8 pints in my hands... i would of cracked him back for you!
I was there yesterday and although the bands were great, there were far too many idiots there that spoiled it for me. People were throwing wee wee all over the place - i got covered in something warm and wet at one point which I wasn't best pleased about.
There was a bit of comotion at one side of the place where people were chucking beer, wee, whatever everywhere. Everyone was cheering and clapping and it was quite entertaining... from the safety of my viewpoint. The police tried to intervene at one point but gave up in the end. I don't blame them - 2 police people v a mega crowd - they had no chance.
That said, the Arctics were great, despite a few technical glitches. Supergrass were ace and Amy Winehouse turned up so that was good enough for me! Plus the weather was fantastic. A grand day out.
becky518 30-07-2007, 21:26 i went yesterday and it was brill got to 2nd barrier n this bloke kept hitting me in head so security put me in the circle oh my god it was brill! That been said me mum got pushed over and trampled on and a kind bloke dragged her up so cheers if u read it!!
Also met darren (ob from hollyoaks) he lent a fag off me! couldnt take me jumper off tho as its 1 from magna and got endless offers to buy it n didnt want it swippin! oh n all the wee flyin we got in car and stunk of 60%wee 40% booze so nice! We went to bar on left handside n at most waited 20mins!!
Cant wait 4 next year it was a top night for all fans!!
s&mplaster 30-07-2007, 21:35 went saturday
traffic, a nightmare into manchester. arrived about 6 and parked quiet easily.
venue, ****** ***t, 3 queues to go to the toilet. somethings wrong when were paying our tax for police to keep control of a beer queue.
bands, supergrass ok if a little unenthusiastic. missed the rest.
arctics, love them but dont think there a big venue band prefer them in smaller venues.
saying all that would not have missed it for the world.
quote of the day, my mate who was a gig virgin when seeing the beer queues said "will the wine queue be as big" oh dear........
We saw the gay one from Hollyoaks on saturday.... not gay in real life.... had a lovely lady on his arm!

becky518 30-07-2007, 23:04 which one? seem hollyoaks are arctic monkey fans!!!
carcrash 31-07-2007, 09:02 I've been to a few gigs at this place and it really isn't suited for live music but I have found that the facilities on the left hand side of the arena don't get as busy.
They seem to be plagued with bad sound at these big events, Glastonbury was iffy by all accounts, at T in the Park the sound was awful for most of the set and it sound like there were problems here
