There has been a confirmed outbreak of strangles within the boundaries of the city. Recommend you check with vet before taking your horses to any places you dont know well enough to trust ie other yards, events etc. If you do go out, make sure you avoid any head to head contact between horses, and avoid touching any horses other than your own, or sharing water buckets, hay or feed, tack or other equipment.
Please avoid visiting riding schools and livery yards if you also visit other yards or farms unless you are absolutely sure there is no chance of infection (ie no new horses in the last two months, and no competion or showing excursions). You should not visit two yards in the same clothes (ie wash them and yourself in between) even if you don't think there is an infection.
If you have care of a horse, you should take extra precautions and avoid any close contact with other animals not known to or controlled by you. If you have contact with young, breeding or sick animals you should take extra care as these are most vulnerable to severe illness.
