The techies on the forum may have a better understanding, but I found this on http://forum.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=Tech;action=display;num=1102281349; start=0
it may put your mind at rest:

When I click that long link (URL) I also get the Suspected Spider warning page. The warning is just a web page, not a popup window and it's not a virus or trojan. A Spider is a program that visits web sites and scans their web pages to create entries for a search engine index (e.g. Google). Notice the 'clickthrough' bit in the URL - that indicates some sort of click tracking site.

Probably the link was valid when the search engine indexed it, but the page it refers to no longer exists. The warning you see is just a web page indicating that link you used to get there is out of date. Nothing to worry about.

cgk pretty much covered the bases there...

Some sites deliberately try to stop people from cloning their websites by putting in place scripts that appear to the search engine research spider as a new page... This tends to waste a LOT of time and resources and discourages this sort of practice.

Another practice is that of special index pages that target specific search engines with known or suspected indexing practices... These pages tend to be loaded with keywords and phrases that tend to get a very high rating/placement in search engine results...

All very technical stuff I appreciate but from a practical point of view the smartest thing to do when you get a result like this, is to just cut down to the bare bones domain name in the address bar and hit return.

eg: http://www.randomsite.co.uk/lots/of/gumpf/index.asp
-> http://www.randomsite.co.uk

Hope that helps.
