hi
where can i get a house trained cat?
i live on a busy road and wouldnt like to get a cat or kitten that may get run over when its let out
is it possible to get cats that stay in??
You'll find that virtually every cat from about 4 weeks old is completely house trained- it's one of the things that mummy teaches them when they're tiny, and they don't need pads all round the place like puppies tend to need.
Training them to stay inside the house is a different matter- I'm not sure that there is such a thing as a cat that grows up and just chooses to stay indoors.
I heard a very apt saying once- when you train a dog not to do something, you train them not to do it. When you train a cat not to do something, you train them not to do it while you're looking.
If you want to have an indoor cat (and that's perfectly OK if you've got the space, the time and the money to keep them entertained inside your house) then you'll need to provide ways to keep them indoors. Even cats that normally live inside can be little Houdinis when they want to be.
If you get a kitten then it's easy to keep him or her trained for an indoor life, and that life will be a good one too - no injuries or diseases, lots of warmth and comfort etc. Just give them the run of the house, play with them and they are perfectly happy to stay in. But remember that you don't leave your doors wide open or most cats will sneak out as they're nosey creatures! It's up to you to keep them in!
You may even be able to get an adult cat from a rescue centre which is used to staying in or which the centre recommend stays indoors.

That is so true:hihi: They understand NO! in the instant.....but it has no long term meaning for them.

I have a cat called Lacey (well she's my grans) and she's eleven years old. She went out until she was four, and then my nan made the decision to keep her inside.
Now she walks out of the door, looks around, and if you say to her.. "lacey.." she walks straight back in the house. Another of my cats WON'T go outside. She's really timid and hates the outside world.
