Hi guys,

I want to book some tickets for a Sheffield United and a Sheffield Wednesday match. I'm taking my nephew to both matches so he can decide who he may support :)

I want to be able to select the seats where we sit, like you do at the cinemas. Need to be near the stairs so if he wants to go to the toilet, we don't have to get past too many people.

Also I want to make certain that our seats will be together.

Has anyone booked tickets from either football team and can they tell me if its possible to select seats.

Thanks.

The simple answer is, yes. Just call either box office and ask them to sort it out. It won't be a problem at all.

Are you sure??

Certainly not in my experience. You can book a particular area, but you certainly can't be so specific as to book the actual seat.
But you can certainly get 2 seats together.

it might be an idea to ask for tickets in the Family Stand of either club, where young uns are catered for, and pre match entertainment is put on, with mascots etc.

Yes. So long as seats are available, you can ask for them. By the same token, the OP doesn't want specific seats, exactly, but specific types of seats.

Both offices will be helpful.

I have been searching on the net and came across the company Seatbooker (http://home.seatbooker.net/) who provide exactly what i'm looking for. Unfortunately Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday use some other company for the internet booking.

I was hoping for specific seats. Exactly like I can choose at the cinema. Two seats next to the stairs and roughly in the middle of the block.

I'd rather book online than wait in a phone queue and be charged a lot. Going to have to call this time, but surely seat selection is a common request.

When I said 'specific types' of seats, that is what I meant. Two seats by a gangway; two seats on the top row, etc. Your best bet would be to phone the box office direct, or go to the ground.

Most people don't ask for specific seats (as in 'I want ZZ185 and 186, please'), half of the time because people tend not to sit in 'their' seats, but you can ask for a certain type of seat. You'll need to speak to the box offices direct.

Good idea about the family stand too.

dont give him a choice, he'll only end up at the lane anyway hehe

but what about all the people who'll pass you when they go to the toilet

Also I want to make certain that our seats will be together.

Yeah that'd help

Has anyone booked tickets from either football team and can they tell me if its possible to select seats.

yes it is. look on the websites and see yourslef where in the ground you want to sit.

Thanks.

It's a good idea taking him to both games to decide who to support. But you may find it extremely difficult getting two seats together for a popular game like this unless you are a season ticket holder.

If you aren't a season ticket holder when these games come around the both clubs normally say if you have been to two certain specific previos games you get priority. If you couldn't get tickets in the family stand I would be reluctant depending how old your nephew is to take him to another area of the ground especially the Kop. This is because people who at a normal game are a ordinary fan, I've seen people turn into hate filled fans aiming the full dictionary of swear words at the oppositions fans.

this is the sheffield teams guds, you can probably do this type of things in the lower leagues..

Yes, I had thought that.

I don't think he's on about the derby matches, just two matches, one involving SUFC, and one involving that lot.

For the derby matches, as you say, unless you're a season ticket holder, you've more chance of crapping in the Queen(TM)'s handbag than getting two tickets together.

Its a shame that with the technology available today more clubs are not providing seat selection.

Surely this is something that majority of the fans would want. I definitely would want to choose where I sit, after all I paid for the ticket. :)

Not really. Most just want to be in the same area as their mates. Don't forget that at a lot of clubs, certainly both in Sheffield, there are thousands of season ticket holders. At Bramall Lane next year there will be at least 17,000 seats from 28,000 (at the most) home seats which have already been sold. For some home matches this allocation could be considerably less, if both tiers on the away end are given up for the Day Before Thursday match, for example.

This of course is due to the away allocation. As I have said, take a trip to the box office, or phone them, and they will advise you on the availability of the seats you require, and yes, you can choose.

You just have to go there, or speak to someone. Going back to where you want to sit, you almost certainly won't be able to buy the tickets you want at Bramall Lane (middle of the stand, halfway up, on the aisle), as they will be season ticket holders' seats. I'm fairly sure the same may hold true for the other lot too.

Hope this helps mate, and I hope you both enjoy the experience.

I can well remember a delicious Hodges goal against Schmeichel.

Topped only by Erics chip at the Lane vs Kelly.

I believe the family stand at Wednesday is members only so you wont get one off games there, at united you can buy tickets for the family stand but you will be at either end of the stand.

Infract the same goes for the Kop or the south stand; the central seats in each stand are taken up by season ticket holders.

That was also a special goal. If you ever have the misfortune to have to endure "When Saturday Comes", you can see it in the small TV in the corner as Man U go 2-0 up in the 'real' 'semi-final' at the Lane.

I remember the penalties for the film being done at half time in the actual tie. I swear to God(TM) that the officials were looking at their watches thinking "Any more of this, and we won't start the second half until midnight."

Surely not all 17,000 season ticket holders will turn up for every match. Are the seats that are not taken available?

Why else would they buy a season ticket?

I think you are making this harder than it needs to be.
Pick your game, pick the area of the ground you would like to sit in,
contact the club and say "Two seats please"

You will receive two seats together for your chosen area.
Most clubs will not cater for exact seat requests, because they dont have the time or manpower to do this.
A cinema will have about 500 seats max. They can seat people where they want to sit exactly.
To give each fan that level of individual attention for a football match is not going to happen, with 30000 seats in the stadium.

To make certain they can get to the best matches. I find it hard to believe that 17,000 season ticket holders attend every match.

I understand what I need to do to get the tickets. The questions were to get a general view of what others thought.

With the technology available today, time and manpower should not be an issue. Just look at Spurs, they provide (or provided) seat selection via Seatbooker (http://home.seatbooker.net/)

Yes they do, and no they're not. They can't be made available as they are already sold in effect. I'm a season ticket holder, and don't go near the ground until just before kick off.

Put it this way, I've paid for that seat for a year, and received a small discount for paying a lump sum.

You can't sell goods that are already sold.

Absolutely spot on, except for the specific seat request. Whenever I've had to buy extra tickets for people for matches at the Lane, they've alway looked around my season ticket seats for any spare, and if there aren't, they'll check round my mates' season ticket seats too.

No. People buy season tickets to guarantee seats for all matches involving their beloved club. Believe me, I wouldn't spend nearly £450 on season tickets every year so I can make sure I have a ticket for 4 or 5 matches for me and my eldest.

I understand what I need to do to get the tickets. The questions were to get a general view of what others thought.

So do it!

Have you got shares in this firm, mate ;)? Seriously, just talk to them. If it ain't broke (which it ain't), don't fix it! Even better, go to the ground for the tickets. Except for a few days a year, if a big match is coming up (for both clubs that will probably only be in the Cups, or for derby tickets), there are no queues in the box offices, and, and please don't take this the wrong way, as you have little knowledge of how football ticketing works, you'll get much better service than trying to do it yourself.

As was pointed out by Guderian, seating a few hundred people for repeat showings of films is one thing; trying to organize well over 20,000 people for a one off (effectively), is a completely different kettle of fish.

If it ain't broke (which it ain't), don't fix it!

:D That's one way of looking at it. A few years ago I went to watch Spurs play and was able to book a ticket online, choose my seat, and see what view I would have of the pitch from my seat. Seatbooker do the online ticketing for Spurs, that is why I mentioned them.

I'll get my tickets for the match. With football being the national sport and so much money being pumped into the football industry, and the football clubs making a lot of money, I thought the average customer would be provided with the latest and best means of purchasing a ticket.

Thanks for the information guys.
