Not so long ago you might remember me posting about my cat and her kittens and how we managed to find all but one kitten a home. That kitten has stayed with me and i love her to bits, shes my princess.

We wanted to get Mouse my cat neutered at the vets but before we got a chance she was pregnant again. That was fine as we already had tons of people who wanted the kittens as she is such a beautiful cat. The only problem is she should have given birth by now, and she hasnt.

She is huge, i touch her stomach and i can feel the outlines of her babies, and she is struggling to go places and jump but she is keeping them in. Its like shes keeping her legs crossed. Shes hissing and growling at Minnie who is my kitten even though my kitten goes no where near her. I have tried to make safe spots for her but she just wont do anything. She is constantly in and out and im terrified shes gonna have the babies outside.

I can only think of one thing to do and thats take her to the vets who will probably do a C section and i'll end hand rearing the kittens. I know i can do this but i want it to be a last resort. Has anyone got any ideas on what i can do to help mouse and what might be causing her to keep them in.

Mouse is a small cat and she is very large, perhaps she cannot manage to let them out.

If she is restless like that i would say she may be in labour and unable to give birth although i am no expert she sounds ready, i think she needs a vet to look at her right away if she's been like that for more than a few hours.

Shes been like it for a few days, shes constantly on the move and she has trouble getting down to eat her food, i mean she can still jump onto certain things like the window sill and stuff but she really does look fed up with it all now.

Perhaps the best thing would be to take her to the vets

i will let you know what the vet says and if she does come back

Mouse has come back in but she seems fine, she is acting like her old self which is really weird. She isnt restless anymore and if the kitten walks past she growls a little but she doesnt go for her. I think...no im certain she found a nesting spot under my bed, right at back inbetween two boxes. Very safe as she can watch out for the kitten coming and im always there to keep an eye on her.
Im almost completely sure its her nest cause she keeps dragging peices of paper under there and ripping them up.

Fingers crossed she will have them naturally. I'll give her another week and see if things are ok.

Minnie the previous kitten is staying away and ive already fallen in love with one of the kittens its a silvery grey and white kitten that ive named Sparkle for the moment. If shes had a boy this time i want to be strange and call it Dude...dont ask me why i just think it'll be funny standing at the door shouting Dude...Dude time to come in...

Congratulations to you and Mouse!

If you haven't already got her on some decent kitten food (like Hills Feline growth biscuits or Royal Canin kitten biscuits) then please get her on it as soon as possible, because back to back pregnancies can be disastrous for the mum's condition and future health. By the time she gets to the end of feeding the babies she will be needing 4-5 times as many calories as a normal adult cat uses, and it's just impossible to get that with adult cat food.

And this time, please please please don't allow her out at all until she's spayed. She'll go into season within 2 weeks of the birth, and a third pregnancy so close together would just be too hard on her poor body.

aww nice one fallen- hope mum n young uns are all doing well. As Meds says, important thing now is to make sure mum has all the nutrition she needs to feed and care for her babies. Keep us posted - most of us melt at the sight of kitten n mum photos.
