I've filled in an online application for a job with the Royal Bank of Scotland, including a personality quiz etc etc and, upon completion, I was told the next stage of the process is that I have to call them to 'progress my application' and that this will take around half an hour! Does anyone know what on earth this half an hour phone call involves? Was particularly wondering whether any preparation is necessary. Seems like a daft recruitment process to me.

They need to see if you can fib to customers and see how good you are at passing the buck to un-named persons you have no chance to contact.

Tell me more - have you worked there or are you a disgruntled RBS customer?!

The second one.

regarding reclaiming charges

They lied about getting my letter and lied about what they were doing about it.
They even carried on fibbing when I pointed out they had cashed the cheque that was in it.

RBS fibbers - We have never had your letter
Me - you cashed the RBS cheque that was in in (shows mini statement)
RBS fibbers - OK we have had it.
Next visit.
RBS fibbers - We have never had your letter

RBS rotherham lied on several occasions and failed to meet the terms laid down in law regarding supplying charge detail within 40 days.

That was rotherham branch and if they want to sue me for this post they can feel free. I have the information with dates (postmarks on letters) so stuff them.

The RBS credit card company (Southend) are worse.
After the same lie about never having the request letter and me pointing out I had posted it by recorded delivery and they had cashed the cheque they carried on trying to lie for a few phone calls
They supplied lists of charges that in part pure lies showing no charges when there were charges. I now have the copies of statements that show the previously supplied lists had charges missing. They made an offer based on their lies.
Took them from march to this morning to come up with them. Well over the 40 days they are allowed.

Seems that RBS consider flouting the law to be fine if they can save a few bob and it's just a customer they rip off and lie to.

I'm totally fed up with Royal Bank of Scotalnd and have transferred to Alliance & Leicester. If you can put £500 per month into an account for six months they will give you £25 for free. Just get in touch with me for a code to give them and then I get £25 too. Sounds great!

Hi. Ive just applied at the Royal Bank Of Scotland too. The half an hour phone call is a telephone interview. They ask you a number of competency questions. I found this site helpful for a few sample questions. http://www.get.hobsons.co.uk/viewTopic/94. They told me straight away that i had passed and now i am waiting for my face to face interview. Good luck anyway!!

I have to say, I hate these flippin 'competency based' interviews, it's a load of tosh isn't it. Most people make things up, and some of the questions they ask are plain daft - 'Why RBS?' for example. Hmm, because I love the idea of sitting behind a glass screen doing the same things over and over again all day for 8 hours. Or maybe, just maybe, I need to learn a living like everybody else and it's 'just a job'. Anyone who is passionate about banking needs to get a hobby or something (sorry to anybody who is genuinely passionate about banking, I'm sure you're a lovely person!). Let's be honest, what percentage of the population really love their jobs? A very low one, I'd guess. I reckon 80% of people would probably fail a so called competency based interview for the job they're currently doing, if they answered honestly!!
