Might be me going crazy but I can only find full filters online or the cocking ones which are a bit pricey. Just want a simply 62mm ND grad filter for the skies and thats it.
Any ideas anyone.

View Full Version : Where to Buy ND Grad Filters From liam1412 18-07-2007, 14:02 Might be me going crazy but I can only find full filters online or the cocking ones which are a bit pricey. Just want a simply 62mm ND grad filter for the skies and thats it. Any ideas anyone. Grissom 18-07-2007, 19:20 There is one supplier of 62mm Grey Graduated Filter ND on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/62mm-Grey-Graduated-Filter-ND_W0QQitemZ220106793353QQihZ012QQcategoryZ30066QQ rdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem). This is grey though so OK if you want Grey skies, otherwise may be a problem. Also not sure who makes it. Problem with a screw-on ND Grad is that you cant shift the transition up and down - you're stuck with it in the middle. That means you cant follow the rule of thirds so well when you want etc. With ND Grads that are made of resin and movable you can select different filters with different effects (say, 1 2 or 3 stop change) and soft or hard transition. You probably know all that anyhow but useful for others reading the thread maybe. I find Speedgraphic and Morco are good suppliers for filters - I like Morco for their free delivery on Lee Filter system, mind you at the price of Lee Filters you'd kinda expect it anyhow ! Singh-Ray are meant to be fab, but I couldnt wait whilst I had them imported and went for Lee :P Chumley 23-07-2007, 18:29 Warehouse Express do B&W grad greys - the 62mm ones are £44. http://www.warehouseexpress.co.uk/?/photo/filters/bw.html#grad These don't give you a grey sky, they just reduce the exposure on one half of the frame. You can rotate these but as Grissom says you're stuck with the grey being on one half of the frame. The 501 is one stop reduction, the 502 is two. I've never encountered a situation where the 501 cuts enough light, as the one stop only applies to the edge of the filter, which doesn't hit the sensor on my 400D. richardwheel 09-10-2007, 21:08 speed graphic do great starter kits (cokin p, z and xpro) all discounted, I'd highly recommend them www.peak-photos.co.uk |
