View Full Version : Our "newish" Rats
Nutronic 18-07-2007, 11:50 As seen here (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=235983) 2 rats were looking for a new home so seeing as we had 3 already we took these in. Here are pics that show you all our 5 rats. We will not be going over 5 as its enough :)
We introduced them all together in the bath as the pics show. They are very nice to each other and Missy seems to be the mummy of them all lol, anyway here is their introduction:

At the moment there is 3 pics in that set but more will be added as and when we take some more so if your interested then please keep an eye on it :)
That's quite a collection you've got!
All girlies? (would they be interested in boyfreinds? ;) )
Nutronic 18-07-2007, 12:11 I aint dabbling in the breeding side of things and yes they are all girlies, there is something I dont like about the male rats.....
baileys_mum 18-07-2007, 12:15 He only dont like dabbling in breeding cos I do all that :hihi:
Nutronic 18-07-2007, 12:20 ..no, i just dont want more rats :|
hels1977 18-07-2007, 12:44 Awww, they look lovely guys :D
Glad you had a nice smooth introduction, won't be long before you'll have a bulging hammock as they all try and pile on top of each other. I've learnt that 6 rats in one hammock really is quite the heat spot :hihi:

You'd change you mind if you saw just how gorgeous a litter of 14 can be :hihi:
baileys_mum 18-07-2007, 12:45 I'd do it in a heartbeat, but the master has spoken :|

I look forward to it

Maybe gorgeous but we may have to get a bigger cage already as I think it could be a little small for 5 furries without adding a further 14 lol!

I had a mummy rat in a rabbit hutch with her babies....it was nigh on impossible to shut the door again when you opened it...little ratties *EVERYWHERE* !!!
The only way to get them all back in was to give them a food item big enough to keep them all busy at the same time...you know, like a chicken... :o
baileys_mum 18-07-2007, 12:51 We do give them chicken, the carcass usually from sundays. We need to fatten the babies up a bit, they look a bit erm, gangly compared to massive missy :hihi:
massive missy :hihi:
Perfect match for tubby Tomsk then ;)
baileys_mum 18-07-2007, 13:03 I've no idea about breeding rats anyway, guinea pigs are easy, just leave em together :hihi:

Same as all animals on the lower end of the food chain :)
baileys_mum 18-07-2007, 13:17 lol would they not tear eachother to bits?
Boy + girl = babies.
All animals that get eaten by everything else take that approach.
I guess there may be a little scuffling, but I never had any problems with it. The one time 'it' didn't happen, the buck wasn't interested in her...guess he was just too old!
baileys_mum 18-07-2007, 13:23 lol bless him!
Aaawwww, look how healthy sally and Bess look. I bet they're glad to see the back of the dog and look so much better for it!
Thanks for taking care of them :) Do they have new names now?
baileys_mum 18-07-2007, 16:29 No, we are going to keep the names I think although telling the difference and remembering who's who might take a while!
Maybe gorgeous but we may have to get a bigger cage already as I think it could be a little small for 5 furries without adding a further 14 lol!
It's so nice to hear someone being sensible for once!
baileys_mum 18-07-2007, 17:29 I'm in the midst of adapting 2 cages into one big one..... watch this space ;)

Powerage 21-07-2007, 22:21 They are sooo cute!
Lspacehopper 24-07-2007, 00:26 Beautiful rats :0). I have 4 and one of mine has similar markings/colouring to one of yours (chinchilla colouring), be prepared for the colour to change quite dramatically as it gets older...amazing to watch :0)
