Weigh more when you've lost weight? If you've lost weight through diet and excercise is it possible that because your toning up and building muscle that you could weigh more but yet be slimmer??? :confused: Am i making sense or just rambling... :|

Yeah, cos instead of teh weight of fat, teh weight turns into muscle.

Yeah when I do lots of exercise I always weigh more. I eat more too ;) But I don't look fatter - just more toned.

it is correct as muscle actually weighs more i was puzzled by this but you are right! i though i was losing weight went down a jean size got on scales and weighed more than i did before went to gym told them and he explained its all on bmi now and about muscle been heavier

thank god for that, i've lost some weight and i've been running on the treadmill every morning/night.. i got on the scales and was horrified that i weighed more than i did previously... Phew... :)

Yeah if you train hard you will inevitably put lean muscle mass on, muscle is more dense than fat so you can burn the fat off through exercise look smaller and still weigh more. Unfortunately for women its possible to have a weight fluctuation due to water retention depending on the time of the month and whether its a full moon or not.

Yes, you can try losing weight, but gain more weight in the process. I've been told that you do lose a lot of water first and foremost before you start working your muscles and fat, depending on what type of exercise you do, and how. I've come to realise that a steady weight is a good thing, than a yo-yo weight. Losing steadily will ensure that you won't gain it back as quickly as you've lost it. I can't explain it, but I know it's all to do with the body mechanisms, and what exercises and food intake you're on at that time. I'm sure there's an explaination somewhere.

muscle doesn't "weigh more"!!! a pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat in the same way that a ton of feathers weighs the same as a ton of lead.
However, muscle is a lean tissue so it takes up less space under your skin than fat...so if you lose fat but increase muscle mass through exercise then you will look slimmer and more toned, but could weigh the same/more than before you started (in the same way that a ton of feathers will probably need a bigger bag than a ton of lead!).

Ive been on a diet for 3 months , and have put weight on, even though I go swimming.:(( I miss my chocolate)

I never have had to diet. Lucky yes, since being a teenager I have put on 2 stones 7 Stone to 9 Stone. I think it may have been because my mother would not let me eat between meals, you had Breakfast, Dinner and Tea. My only treat now is to have a biscuit about 4pm. Its my other vices I want to get rid of.

Muscle does in fact weigh more than fat. for the same given volume of muscle and fat the muscle will have a greater mass that the fat! so you can look smaller and leaner but actually no lighter and even possibly heavier.

Muscle does weigh more in the same way that a cubic meter of bricks weighs more than a cubic meter of feathers.

Don't agree with this - if you have a metric volume of fat and a metric volume of muscle, the muscle will always weigh more.

So if you could put muscle and fat in a bowl, the bowl of muscle would weigh more than the bowl of fat, even though it looks as though there is exactly the same amount. So a muscley person will maybe weigh the more as a person who is overweight although the overweight person will look bigger.

which is what I said...if you take identical weights (as that is what is discussed, and not voumes or cubic meters) then they weigh the same.

Yes but what you're saying is obvious, and not really anything to do with what the original poster was asking.

The OP was trying to ask if exercise can make your weight go up, which it can. It will also make your shape change.

yes this does happen. normally after 8 weeks of exercise you'll start to see a BIG difference in the amount of weight you'll loose. it takes about that long to get your heart beating faster when not exercising hence loose more calories during your resting period x x

You can lose excess water (from fluid retention) by cutting down on salt and salty food and making sure you eat plenty of fruit and fresh vegetables.

I've lost 2.5 stone so far on my diet. I've just cut back the cardio work because I was losing the weight to quickly (2lbs a day) and although my waist has slimmed down my weight has now gone up a couple of pounds. Got huge muscles in my chest shoulders and arms though.

2lbs a day that's 5,000 clories lost per day!! what the hell are you doing. that's not good for you, but i'd like o do that hehe
