I just drove up past the University and the ring road seems to be blocked in the anti-clockwise direction with lots of traffic turning left down Glossop Road to avoid the queue. No mention of any problems on the council website, but the traffic cameras are showing big queues all down that stretch of the road (http://www.thepcoffice.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=9). Anyone know anything about it?

As I've said before, all it takes is a paper bag to blow across the road - any road - for our city to grind to a halt.

Pathetic and IMO all the doings of the council who have closed off so many roads, implemented ridiculous one way streets and of course, placed lights every ten yards which seem hell bent on holding up the motorist.

Oh, and bus lanes which lay empty for most of the time.

Possibly the roadworks on St Marys...Sheaf street looks pretty solid too.

Anyone with a train to catch is gonna miss it :(

Once I was passed those roads it was clear all the way.

Anyone know anything about it?I can't believe someone appears to have ripped off Sheffield City Council's traffic cameras, do you know if that site you've linked to has permission to make those copyright images available via their website?

I assume so - they are just taking the feed from the council webcams and putting them up at a decent resolution instead of as thumbnails! The link is posted here quite regularly as an alternative to the council's own page - that's where I found it.

There was a short period this morning when heavy inbound traffic on Charter Row blocked back onto the Moore Street roundabout, causing queuing approaching the area. Although this incident wasn't caused by them, the works to widen St Marys Road near Granville Square will make the southwest part of the Ring Road vulnerable to congestion throughout the summer. There are two very large British Telecom chambers which have to be worked on, and there is no way of doing so without restricting the clockwise direction to two lanes. We have arranged for the work to be done during the quietest traffic period to try to minimise disruption.

Although the images are copyright, we do not object to sensible use of them on other sites like that one. They aren't actually at higher resolution, they are just a bit bigger. The resolution is chosen specifically to try to avoid privacy issues. I have previously pointed out to magicrambo that he is breeching the OS copyright for the maps.

I left walkley at about 8.50 and went over commonside/brook hill roundabout/hanover way/st marys gate/shoreham st/charlotte rd to get up to arbourthorne, and there was traffic queueing all the way city centre-bound ... i nipped off hanover way and went through town, joined up the fun and games at wickes at the bottom of the moor - every road inbound was queueing ... shoreham st and queens road we both queueing right back as far as you could see.
i eventually got home at about 9.20, for what is usually a 15/20 min journey.

if i had a handsfree set for my mobile i would have rung radio hallam jam line and told them ... :D

I love my drive to work :) less than 10 minutes from Hackenthorpe to the City Centre, hardly another car in sight..this morning I was on the parkway, and there were no cars either behind or in front of me for as far as I could see.

Driving through the rush hour traffic every morning would send me crazy.

The down side is I have to get up at 4.20am!
