Under 16s can enter Young Garden Photographer of the Year and Kew Gardens free of charge
Professional photographers wishing to photograph at Kew Gardens should contact pr@kew.org to obtain a photography permit.
With thousands of pounds worth of cash and prizes up for grabs, this is a unique opportunity for entrants to have their photographs exhibited for the four summer months of 2008 alongside some of the world's most talented photographers in the gardening and landscape world. Several hundred thousand visitors will see the top one hundred pictures at a purpose-built outdoor exhibition at The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, London.
We are now calling for entries in the following categories:
• My Garden
• Garden Views
• Plant Portrait
• Life in the Garden
• Trees
Amateur and professional photographers are encouraged to enter single images or themed portfolios and there will be prizes to suit both types of entry. There will be a new special award for Young Garden Photographer of the Year supported by Chris Collins, the BBC Blue Peter Gardener. Entries for this category are welcomed from young photographers under the age of 16 and are free.
A panel of high-profile industry and art professionals will judge the competition and the winning images will be displayed from May to September 2008.
Previous competition judge Chris Beardshaw, television presenter and garden designer, says: "Our plants and gardens are delightfully dynamic and effervescent—subtly and constantly morphing. So much can be missed at the blink of an eye but, thankfully, it is precisely that precious moment that the camera captures for eternity."

ReCycler 10-01-2008, 11:44 Hi I'm a newbie to this bit of the Sheffield Forum. I bought a Canon 400D last year, I've used it a little and am a complete amateur when it comes to equipment like this. I've always loved taking photo's they've always been with compact camera's.
I hope to be able to contribute a bit more later, off on holiday tomorrow with my hubby to Milan but I wanted to mention this before I go.
http://www.wintersnaps.windowsvistamagazine.com/
This closes 15th February and it's a voting one (I hate voting one's) I feel as though I'm always pestering people :|
Anway this is my entry:-
http://www.wintersnaps.windowsvistamagazine.com/7560519246401157199/puppy-love.html
there's also another of my cat Sushi if you'd like to vote for that too.
You have to register first and you're allowed one vote per entry.
If I did win this I would donate the wireless pc part of the prize to my son's school in S8 - they'd be over the moon to receive this I'm sure. And the tv would look nice in my living room :hihi:.... BUT even the runner up prizes of the Vista software sound very appealing.
I am really in a terrible rush so can't add anything further on this competition, so if anyone wants to add please do so.
Please vote for me - and if you're entering too, post a link and I'll return the favour.
All the best.
Oh btw can anyone recommend an insurance company - I need to insure my camera/equipment for the trip (I'm NEVER organised :loopy:) - please pm me
Thank you
Tracy

Could you be the Landscape Photographer of the Year 2008 ?
If you think you have a singular skill at dramatically capturing the UK landscape, then get your work sorted for the biggest competition of the year, Charlie Waite's Take a view Landscape Photographer of the Year competition. Winning and commended entries will be shown for eight weeks at London's National Theatre and featured in a corresponding book. There's also a total prize fund of £20,000, with the overall winner receiving £10,000.
Submit work in any of four categories. "Classic view" should be big, beautiful and memorable. For "Living the view", capture people interacting with the UK landscape. And in "Your view" and "Phone view", you're encouraged to get especially creative with a conceptual or personal piece. The difference is that in "Phone view" you'll need to use a camera phone instead of a formal camera.
Charlie Waite says of Take a view, "The first year of the Awards exceeded all expectations. The standard of the work was amazing and the exhibition was a great success… I am very pleased that my aim, to involve as many people as possible in making images that symbolise our land and our times, has been met in the most positive way. I can't wait to see this year's entries."
You have until June to assemble your best work, but be sure to check out the details on the Take a view site right away.
