Two weeks ago, I left my car parked on a single yellow line for fifteen minutes in the centre of Sheffield as It was an incontinence crisis and I was desperate. My disabled badge was correctly displayed in full view for the Warden to see it, I was not obstructing or on a no loading sign and I have parked in that same place for years without any problems.

When I returned, there was a parking ticket on my windscreen saying I had commited an offence and would have to pay a £30 fine. I wrote to the Chief Constable explaining all I have just said here and received a reply to say that if I sent a photostat copy of both sides of my badge that was in use at the time of the alleged offence, he would give the matter his full consideration.

Two days ago, I received a threatening letter from the same office, saying that if I did not pay the fine immediately it would go up to £45 and if I still didn't pay it would be £2000 fine and after that I would be jailed.

Well, my point is this, I consider that I have not done anything wrong at all, and if they get away with it, what is to stop the Wardens slapping tickets on everyones cars all the time whether the drivers are guilty or not and telling all the drivers they have commited an offence. In fact why don't they just send fines round to everyones house on a regular basis and it would save money by not employing Wardens???

Rinf the office, explain your situation. Explain that the Cheif Constable is looking into the matter, give his name as reference and tell them this is causing you stress.

They should look into straight away. And get in touh with Citizens Advice.

Personally I wouldn't be paying this fine. Have you been to the CAB? So, when you wrote to the Police was this classed as an official appeal. Who issued the ticket, was it the police then and not a traffic warden? I would make sure you record all telephone conversations with prior warning of course.

On another parking issue. Why is it that you now have to put in part of your vehicle registration when purchasing a ticket for Council car parks? Is this so that you can't pass the ticket on to someone else? I have got a better suggestion. How about distributing refunds for time not used?

Has anyone come across a company called Vehicle Control Services who are private and hired by shops and offices with parking space outside. They slap huge £70 fines on cars and then quickly up them to £110 and then start court proceedings. Hmmm....

It's a big con. I'm not even convinced of the leaglities of such a company. Who determines the £70? Why £70... why not £20? If I ever got 'done' by them (not that I would cos I'm a considerate parker now), I would ride that pony the whole way until I won.
