I pre-ordered mine from Amazon, think it was about 8 quid alchemist 17-07-2007, 18:45 Looks like Asda have kowtowed enough according to the news they are now selling it again Mathom 17-07-2007, 20:20 Think they're selling it in Wilkinsons (yes, really!) for about £7.99! I've ordered mine from Amazon... discodown 17-07-2007, 20:22 Tesco's are doing it at 8.99, i'll be there at midnight on friday... Rich 17-07-2007, 20:26 My copy was dispatched by Amazon on Sunday. Should come sometime this week barring Royal Mail mess ups! £8.99 plus postage on Amazon.. So total cost is £11.74... Mathom 17-07-2007, 20:32 My copy was dispatched by Amazon on Sunday. Should come sometime this week barring Royal Mail mess ups! £8.99 plus postage on Amazon.. So total cost is £11.74... You might get it early! MinxyKitten 17-07-2007, 21:58 asda are selling it half price! any ideas when asda at handsworth will have it on sale? alchemist 17-07-2007, 22:07 I am assuming saturday morning, at least thats when i am intending to go purple_frog 17-07-2007, 22:12 Anyone recommend a nice small local independent book shop from which I could get my copy? Price aint an issue ... The smaller shops desperately rely on 'big name' publications like this, whereas the likes of Tescos and Amazon clearly can afford to slash the price and lure customers away from shops that need the money more .... Beakerzoid 18-07-2007, 00:05 Ordered mine via play.com - on the last book I got it delivered 1 day early (tend to get all pre-orders early from play for some reason). An independent book shop in Sheffield? You're having a larf aint cha? ;) Actually there's Rhyme and Reason at Hunter's Bar - a kids' bookshop - you could try them, otherwise I think the nearest is in Bakewell! :o Rich 18-07-2007, 10:40 You might get it early! Opps sorry. nick2 19-07-2007, 13:36 He dies in the end, and Hermioni marries Ron. ReginaldD 19-07-2007, 13:41 In the rides end he rides off into the sunset naked on the back of a horse. Price aint an issue ... There is an independent shop in Woodseats on Chesterfield Road. Not sure if she will be selling it of course but if you live nearby, it might be worth a look. I might get ours in there actually. Mathom 19-07-2007, 16:19 I apologise - went past again today and Wilkinsons is doing it for the 'standard' price of £8.99 NOT £7.99! - I was just so amazed that Wilko were marketing books that I forgot the price! ;) I know someone who works in a public library in the US who has read it - she says her supervisor found out and now she's deep in the doo-doo but she just couldn't resist sneaking it out of the stockroom overnight. She's resolutely not giving out spoilers though thankfully! But apparently its fantastic and worth the wait ;) I reckon Hagrid will finally go loopy and climb to Trelawney's room at the top of the North Tower and blast everyone to death with a stolen wand...meh ;) samc 19-07-2007, 21:58 and in a cold damp bedsit in Edinburgh. and she sits in a cheap cafe rocking her baby dreaming of getting out of the squalor and becoming one of the richest women in the world... Hecate 19-07-2007, 22:14 The New York Times and the Baltimore Sun have been naughty and published reviews (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6905873.stm) of 'Deathly Hallows' before the release date. Rest assured that neither review reveals a great deal about the plot, with the exception that if you choose to Google for the reviews, you'll find out what a 'deathly hallow' actually is. There's also a brief and subtle allusion to Harry's fate, though it's so obtuse to hardly count as a spoiler. A paragraph at the bottom of the BBC article states that Asda is going to be selling the book for £5! EdnaKrabappe 19-07-2007, 22:34 Wow! Well I intend to go buy it on the way home from my staff night out from Asda tomorrow so i'll post and let you know. :) sezemeseeds 20-07-2007, 13:31 I actually think that the price in irrelvant if you are a die hard fan of the books. You just want it and would pay the price, it won't be over £20 so why bother trying to get "best deal" Just go to the shop and buy it! who cares, just buy it!!!! I paid £8.99 plus p&p but if it had been £20 plus p&p I still would have paid it. Im a big big big fan. thats what fans tend to do you know. What the hell does £1 difference make if you enjoy the books. gabby 20-07-2007, 14:03 I was in Asda today and the Greeter (is that the right word?) annouced they're selling it for a fiver at midnight. gabby 20-07-2007, 14:09 Off topic slightly, but when did Dumbledore die and Snape become Headmaster? Was it in the last book or this new one? Saffy 20-07-2007, 19:58 Off topic slightly, but when did Dumbledore die and Snape become Headmaster? Was it in the last book or this new one? He killed the Headmaster // i.e. Dumbledore ... he didnt become HeadMaster did he? (So long since I read the last book!) My daughters would tell you . . alas, one is in London for the launch, and the other, at work .. Hecate 20-07-2007, 20:07 Off topic slightly, but when did Dumbledore die and Snape become Headmaster? Was it in the last book or this new one? As far as I recall, Snape isn't headmaster, although he did kill Dumbledore towads the end of 'Half Blood Prince' when, I believe, Malfoy failed to. Not that I think Snape is evil for a minute; I'm convinced he's a good guy (though I bet he dies tragically at the end of 'Deathly Hallows' to atone for his Death Eater past). I guess I'll find out for sure tomorrow. alchemist 21-07-2007, 06:16 Got mine last night for a fiver from ASDA, the 2 hour queue was a bore tho but at least I was towards the front steevie/d 21-07-2007, 08:41 morrisons at ecco got it for £4.99 EdnaKrabappe 21-07-2007, 12:18 Yeah Asda £5. Only up to chapter four though as i'm not feeling very well and keep needing to sleep :( fox20thc 22-07-2007, 17:07 I got mine from Wilkinsons £8.99 and I was quite happy to pay that price. Went to the warehouses today, Makro were selling it at £12.99 :o Costco at £4.99. I think lots of shops will be left with alot of books with prices so wildly different. I did enjoy my read though :D alternageek 22-07-2007, 17:20 saw it at sainsburys on the moor for £8.79 and they had loads just to give folks a heads up sammsufc 22-07-2007, 19:13 you can get it for £3.99 from whsmiths....... if you spend over 15 quid on books/cards/stationary and say tht uve pre-ordered it with them but lost the receipt foxydebs 22-07-2007, 20:01 you can get it for £3.99 from whsmiths....... if you spend over 15 quid on books/cards/stationary and say tht uve pre-ordered it with them but lost the receipt So in actual fact you get it for 19.99 with other books or stationery, i only wanted the harry potter book, so offers like this werent any good and i had already preordered it from whsmiths anyway before this. My auntie got it from morrisons at bramley and said i should have waited and not preordered it, but knowing my luck they would have sold out if i did that lol |
