I've just realised this is here so I've now posted in tech chat and phtography

I can't afford one so don't tell me to go buy one of those hugely expensive packages

At the moment I'm using an adobe photoshop starter edition thing that I find a tad naff to be honest.

I want to download a programme (if possible) that will allow me to merge photos, change them to sepia, brush out blemishes and possibly make small projects etc.

There are a few free downloads (and yes, I have virus protection) on the net but don't know which are worth downloading...

Any ideas?
Thanks :D

Go for the Gimp.
Certainly best free photo editing software I've found.

Google do a free one called Picassa (http://picasa.google.com/index.html). Not sure how good it is though I'm afraid.

Pretty good for organising pics into groups (albums) and basic adjustments (cropping, colour corrections).

thanks, I've been advised to go for gimp by someone else.

Is that better than the VicMan's one?

Thanks guys....

I think I've got it sorted *fingers crossed*!

I'm not very good at the whole photography thing but it would be nice to be able to make my pics look a bit better!

Any other recommendations? I'm going to turn this into the first entry in a new sticky FAQ list.

Picasa is also easy to upload pictures to it's free host site and show (http://picasaweb.google.com/bigdave92/Aircraft) in forums etc.
