Hi , just like to introduce Burton Street Foundation at Hillsborough. You may know that we were one of the major locations for The Full Monty. Anyway we have recently invested in a new Concert Hall and Bar as well as ra ecording and rehearsal studio. We run regular monthly open-mic sessions for bands and solo artists. We provide PA, Drum Kit and amps.
We are also interested in helping bands promote themselves at our concert venue which can hold 150. If you are a local band or artist who thinks you can draw 100 + punters get in touch and we will provide the hall FREE

Hi there we are a local 11 piece Soul Band. Been playing a few gigs round Sheffield, Mansfield, Wakefield. Would be great to play some new venues. Can we charge on the door? Or does it have to be free to the public.

Personally i think this is nothing any bands i know would be interested in, if you can draw 100+ people then you can call the shots at many a venue and even do a gig at Leadmill supporting a 'known band'.
Not meaning to knock the venue, it sounds really nice, but with more then 10 free venues in the city centre (no matter how many people you bring) I think you could do with a different approach... maybe a few gig gatherings of 8+ bands etc or something along them lines.

You can charge on the door. Thats the objective for the bands to make money rather than the 'promoter'

Reply to Mtheo - The idea is that the bands can promote themselves and keep any gate money themselves. No problem if a few bands want to get together and promote a joint gig. We have heard complaints from bands saying that its the promoters who make the money not them - well this is a chance for the bands themselves to make the money if they want to and have the marketing skills. If Bands are a business - this is another channel to sell their services. In any type of sales situation the more channells of distribution the better. No manufacturer exists just to sell goods to supermarkets, they sell to catalogue shops, small stores and on the internet as well. If no bands wants to take it up the offer , that's fine we have plenty of business catering for parties and anniversaries etc. But for those who are not getting enough gigs or want to promote themselves as headliners, or prepared to make an effort - we offer a venue that can help.
The difference is that we are a 'Not-for-profit' organisation and we have a social mission as well as an economic one.
Best Wishes
as i've done some promoting before i can safely say if bands think they make a lot of money and laugh to the bank they are foolling themselves, its under minimum wage and a lot of the time you can lose out.
Bands by rights should promote ANY gig they do as much as possible..it's not just for a promoter.
I just dont know any bands (and i know a lot) that could pull in that many people who would go for the idea. Good luck thou, if you ever have a special event on or something let me know and i could point you in the direction of some bands.
