Daniel = 'word of god' i think... old testament era hebrew orginally, although I suspect my parents were listening to Elton John in the late 70s...

I seem to remember reading somewhere that my surname (Statham) comes from 'Stathe' man which was someone who tied up canal boats... a stathe is the same as a quay if you're talking about canals.

my name aparently means lover of men :o Origin Greek

My sons means fire (root name is Irish however it is the English spelling) and my daughter means Grace (origin is disputed as being Russian or Irish). My sons name I came up with for the partner to agree, same with the my daughters name. Her name is from a friend I know at college who was simply a really nice person.

I was named after my father (who I have since disowned - LONG story.....)

I have a placemat here saying what my name means:

Dean

From the Gaelic word for 'great'
A daring, outgoing man who is not afraid to say what he feels.
Sets high standards for himself and others.

I was named after an England cricket player called Ian Woosman who apparently played really well in the summer of 1987 (when I was born)

I forget exactly how well he did, according to my Dad.

Hehe, obviously it was my Dad's idea :P

If I ever have a son, I want his middle name to be Patrick so that he shares the same middle name as Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton ;)

I was named after a Sheffield Wednesday player,(almost)

My mother asked my brother to pick a name for me and he picked Tommy.

After picking herself up off the floor in shock, she realised his surname was Craig,so she opted for that!

From memory Daniel means 'judged by God' - and I was named after an Irish grand-uncle.

(the earlier post meaning 'princess' in hebrew - I know that one from memory too! A girl I liked when I was about 7 had the same name. Strange how I can remember that but not remember what I had for breakfast...)

Hi Ian ,are you sure you're not named after Ian Woosnam a golfer?
In 1987, he won a total of eight tournaments and topped the money list on the European Tour, becoming the first European to earn more than a million dollars in one season.
Cheers.

Kristopher is an alternative spelling of Christopher... Honest!

it's more common a spelling, in eastern Europe, of the name, there are also versions of it , e.g. christophe, Kristofer, Kristov, etc,

the name has the meaning "Bearer of Christ".

(there is the legend of Saint Christopher who bore the Christ-child, across a river, on his shoulders. He is the parton saint of travellers)

The most noteworthy bearer of this name was Charles the Great, commonly known as Charlemagne, a king of the Franks who came to rule over most of Europe. Several Holy Roman Emperors bore this name, as well as kings of England, France, Spain, Portugal, Sweden and Hungary. My first name, Paul, means 'small or little' which is quite inaccurate since I'm 6'1 and 44 chest. I guess I was small when I was born though.

Paul is a bible name.

My middle name, George, means 'Tiller of the Soil' or farmer/earthworker.

The origin is Greek.

Susana

Origin Hebrew - Shushanna meaning Lily (Not at all like me I might add)

This probably wasn't what you meant, but I'm not doing my real name out loud, so

from strix.com:

"The literal translation of the Latin word "Strix" is "screeching owl", our logo. The symbolism relates to wisdom, hence the "Innovative Technology" which is our watchword.

More than 25 years ago John Taylor (the company's recently retired chairman) developed the first kettle control with automatic steam switch-off, a device which has subsequently protected millions of kettles against accidental dry switch-on or boiling dry.

Today the company he founded is the market leader in kettle design technology using thermostatic controls. "

Well, that was a surprise! :hihi:
