The new BSG is awesome.

Got into it because of the thread on here (thx Starsparkle ;) ).

Bought the opening 4 hr prologue and series 1 & 2 box sets on DVD.

Series 3 finished on Sky a few weeks back.

They're all being repeated on Sky2 at the moment - 2 episodes every Sat night at midnight. Just waiting for the replays to get to series 3, which I guess will end in time for the new series 4 early next year.....

Yes, it was. But it was to illustrate the point of how inhuman they are.

Or were...

You should watch it!

The original BSG was fun, in a silly amateur kind of way, the new one is way to far up it's own bum to be entertaining, it's just tedious. The decision to change the sex of one of the main characters and have her "acted" by a good looking woman is an obvious attempt to get the male sci-fi nerds to watch it (in the same way that Troi and Seven-of-nine are in Star trek) one handed.

BSG, better storylines and stuff in my opinion.

I prefer Star Trek to be honest.

The new BSG, from what bits I've seen of it, sucks in comparison to the old ones IMO.

But that seems to be the case with the majority of remakes, they're all crap compared to the originals.

The new BSG is by far much better than the original, but you cannot really judge it on a few episodes as it has a very good story arc to it.

I saw a few episodes like you, and thought the same, "it wasnt much" but then I watched all of Season 2 and 3 and changed my mind. :)

My pleasure Ginner!

How can you choose between two things that are so close to perfection? I absolutely couldn't choose between them, and refuse to do so!

They're both standard-bearers for quality, innovative television at its peak. No way will I / can I make a choice!

The new BSG is the best program on TV at the moment, not just the best sci-fi program.

I have always loved Star Trek, but now I'm totally hooked on BSG. Its very dark, but fantastic storylines to it. I wasn't too impressed at first but then I did the same as Ginner - started watching Series 1 and 2 on DVD, got the BSG bug, and was too late to catch the 3rd series on Sky. Can't wait till Sky Two puts it on.

Never really watched Trek but I think BSG is awesome. Gritty, adult, well written storylines and great acting.

Not in Battlestar Galactica's case - the new series blows the old one straight off the screen and into space!

But it's unfair to compare them really, as they are VERY different series indeed, and are both totally of their own time.

You haven't seen Series 3 yet? Oh boy, do I envy you! You are in for such a treat

In particular, the last two double-episodes are out-of-this-world tv - quite simply the best tv I have ever watched in my life. Mind-blowing

I'll have you know I'm a big fan of Dirk Benedict - he was the right Starbuck for the 70s! ;)

The world has moved on since, admittedly.... :P

Keep yer eyes peeled for the synopses every week (double episode every week from 00:01 Sundays). I would guestimate Series 3 will start sometime in October, to be timed to end when the new series 4 comes out I guess.

Can't bring myself to fork out £40 for the box set in Sept (although it's one of the few series I'd probably watch all over again). The Prologue & Season 1 & 2 can be found quite cheaply now.

They are cheap in HMV at the moment.

Season 1 is only £15

Why does it have to be Star Trek or BSG? Can't I love them both?

Plus side of new BSG - no daggits or disco dancing!

I own the original BSG as well as the new ones, and there are some interesting parallels in the plots, especially concerning a certain bright white light.

BSG easily, it's got a stronger plot and it's a much grittier, darker show.
STNG is just lightweight fluff in comparison.

Yeah but Star Trek had the other A Team member, Dwight Schultz, as Lt Reg Barclay in Tne Next Generation.

The original series of Star Trek was pretty good as are a few of the films the Next Generation is hopelessly utopian rubbish and the rest are even worse with Voyager in particular dragging the franchise down to ever greater depths of stupidty.

In contrast nBSG is fantastic and in many way a much needed antidote to ST, big plot arcs, vaguely realistic & believable space combat, a merciful lack of technobabble, people acting like people… though it has to be said the most recent series after a amazing start is a bit of a let down after the first 2.

Remakes are often poor they aren't all though, nBSG for one is much much much better than the original series.

Have you actually watched the last 4 episodes (two double episodes) of Series 3?

Television drama at its very best - absolutely spell-binding

Yes I have and whilst they were a significant improvement on the middle of the series they still weren't up there with the overall quality of the previous 2 (and those guys mumbling 'all along the watchtower' was just silly).

Each to their own then. I thought it all came together wonderfully. And I thought the "All along the Watchtower" was very fitting and done very well.

But then it would be very strange to find you and me agreeing on anything, I suppose... :P

But surely even you must admit Romo Lampkin was a class act par excellence?

Oh yes I absolutely agree, they were sooooooperb to watch.
Both ST and BSG are great programmes equally in their own right, both made with the best CGI at their disposal, but with the advancement that is going on at the moment, future shows will be .............just mindblowing and something to look forward to.
