OH is not amused. We have two large bunnies, very friendly and confident. They live in a child's playhouse with a nine foot run with another hutch fixed at the end, the base is concrete,'bunny mansions'. They have chewed through the sides which are now double boarded, which seems to have slowed their escape in that direction. One end of the run is covered over for shade but the other end has no roof, but is covered in mesh on a frame, sides are three foot high, the mesh is not fixed down as we lift the frame for access. They seem to be escaping now by leaping athlectically, dislodging the frame and over the sides. I can't see how else they are escaping, no holes/gaps/tunnels. Is this possible can rabbits leap three foot??

Does anyone else have this problem? I reckon they have been watching 'the great escape', or 'chicken run'

Rabbits can leap five foot, never mind three. They could jump right over your head if they really had to :hihi:

And yes, rabbits can CLIMB. Which is what the mesh should be no bigger than 1cm gaps because they will fit their feet in and walk up the sides

Thanks Bobbybunny, we are rabbit novices, though i've read the books and asked around, really didn't know they could jump so high. Looks like another job for OH, we're going to hinge the mesh roof frame and latch it down. The sides are now solid boards. Luckily our garden is secure, but they will find a way out of it i know so i want them to be safe.

Don't worry about it. And yeah rabbits can get out of any garden. You're supposed to have your whole garden with mesh 3 foot under the earth so they can't tunnel out, at least 6ft high fences, etc etc.. They can escape from anywhere, its what they're made to do.
