Cenobite 15-07-2007, 10:32 Wait a little there are rumours of quite a big price drop in the next week or so.It does play ps2 games and dvd's.If you have any ps2 memory cards I believe you need an adaptor then load the saved information on to the ps3 hard drive.I think its expensive due to the fast it plays blu ray discs.I do not have one yet as there are no games for it that I want to play but I will get one as more games come out.have a read here too.

They suck total ********* dont bother, waste of money, i'd have to slap you if you got one, I know a few people who got one, and then got rid only a couple of weeks later..
as for it playing PS2 games, it only supports a limited number of games, (list available on the ps3 website) -- they are aparently going to offer free updates every few months, that make it support more...
bunnykins 15-07-2007, 11:06 was thinking of it for an xmas gift tbh,
do you think a ps2 or xbox 360 would be better then?
a 'newer model' xbox 360 would be better, or a Wii imho.. the xBox and PS3 dont interest me at all, but cant wait to get a Wii
Xbox 360 Elite is out in 6 weeks according to GAME.
£329 with 120 Gig hard drive, and all the HDMI stuff built in ready for high definition gaming, and still cheaper than PS3 even with its price drop.
I'd buy one if I wasn't skint.
If you're thinking of it for Christmas then I would wait until nearer the time before making a decision.
The reason PS3 is so expensive is that it has a blu-ray drive built in and so can function as a HD player. Whether it is really all that expensive depends on whether you have a HD TV and an interest in watching HD movies. To get an Xbox 360 up to the same spec would cost more overall but if you aren't interested in the extra functionality you aren't forced to buy it with Xbox.
Right now the PS3 doesn't have many good games but that should change before long and there's a good chance the price will be cut fairly soon too.
I'm the opposite to the others in that there is no way I would touch a 360 but I might consider a PS3 in the future should the price drop and the number of games increase.
If it's for the kids though you'd be best off finding out which they want, as peer pressure and so on can play a big factor.
360 > PS3.
Yeh.
As you said, PS3 has no good games out at the moment, 360 has several that's without even mentioning the hundreds of Live Arcade titles out if you're into retro stuff.. Recently Sega have started bringing some of their older stuff out on the Live Arcade service, stuff like the original Sonic the Hedgehog and Golden Axe, with more to come apparently.

chimaera 16-07-2007, 10:25 The PS3 is good hardware hampered by an insane cost. In the US and Japan where its already cheaper than here they've seen price cuts but here the pack-in has expanded to include a couple of games and an extra pad.
I wouldn't worry overly about the lack of games - all consoles have something of a game drought after release, the 360 did and the Wii is only just coming to the end of its :)
Personally though I'd still go with a 360 over a PS3 - theres no games I want coming to the PS3 but not the 360 while the inverse is true.
JohnGraham 16-07-2007, 13:18 i own all 3 next gens and a gaming pc and the 360 wins hands down, simply because there are alot of good games out for it where as the ps3 has about 2 and only another 5 or coming out over the next year, and most of them are on the 360 too! ;)

If i was you i'd go and get 1 right now, the HD games on them are amazin, and it's a cheap blueray player as well, all blockbuster shops are going blueray. A Blueray on its own is over £500.00+ so def worth while getting a PS3.
xbox360 is the biggest box of s*it you can currently buy.
If i was you i'd go and get 1 right now, the HD games on them are amazin,
How do you mean Hi-Def games? Do you mean games on a Blu-Ray disc are better? The X-360 is Hi-Def too.
ChrisTodd 18-07-2007, 10:27 I like the PS3 as a games console but I haven't used the Blu Ray DVD player yet.
I think the PS3 would be a lot better without the Blu Ray and at a cheaper price.
You will probably finds as well as Christmas gets nearer that more places will bundle games with the PS3.
Craig7777 18-07-2007, 11:08 ps3 is hundered times better than the 360 imo ;)
Ask hitler see what he thinks of the PS3 (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?p=2449180#post2449180)

I have had mine since launch and I know at least 17 other people personally that loves theirs! I dont know anyone who has taken one back. Best thing is to ry someones, I owned a xbox360 and took it back. I dont regret a thing, PS3's are brilliant!
Guderian 19-07-2007, 23:26 I have owned both. And sold both!!
360 wins by a nose though......
Xbox 360 is better than the PS3 as it has been out longer, is cheaper, has more or less the same power and has many more great games for it. I have both and the PS3 is overrated & over priced.
jonhanson 20-07-2007, 10:13 Xbox everytime, i just had to have mine fixed but the customer service was good and got two free recent titles too for them going over their estimated fix time.
PS3 without question. Right now I'd say both consoles are about even, with the 360 being cheaper and having more games due to being later in its lifecycle, but PS3 having Blu-Ray and not melting like the 360!
It will not be long until the PS3 begins to pull away though, as the 2nd and 3rd waves of games are released now and this Christmas, more content and features being added to the online space (not least HOME, which is going to be an incredible addition and only get better as it grows)... and all of that is not taking into account that PS3 games are on Blu-Ray discs, giving a much higher capacity and proper High Def gaming - and once the game developers get to grips with it there'll be a much more obvious and large gap between the PS3 and 360 in my opinion.
Following E3 a lot of the (non-Ninty and non-M$oft) games press are already saying this is starting to show signs of happening (the Killzone 2 trailer often getting mentioned as early proof), and of course Sony themselves saying that there's going to be some "huge fireworks" of announcements coming at the Leipzig conference next month - so I'm really looking forward to seeing what they announce.
If you can afford one, get a PS3 definately... if you can't afford one... save your money until you can (and maybe get a Wii and Wii Sports/Wii Play) to keep you going until you've saved up enough ;)
