We are bracing ourselves for the annual visit from the in-laws from Germany later this month. They insist in cramming their car full of German goodies for us - which usually means sausage, cheese and beer :hihi:.

For a change, I thought there might be some recommended wool that I can ask them to bring over for me. Stuff that may be hard to get over here, but easy to get over there.

Any recommendations??

Cheers, Carrie

GGH yarn (http://www.ggh-garn.de/index_en.php) is German. You can get that over here, but you might find that the full range is more easily available there.

Lana Grossa (http://www.lanagrossa.com/) is also German.

Here's a link to a blog entry (http://alison.knitsmiths.us/001393.html) describing shopping for yarn in Berlin, you might get some ideas :) .

Forgot to mention, Germany is apparently very big on sock yarn (isn't Opal German?). They might find some interesting stuff tucked away in the yarn shops that we can't get over here.

How about some interesting ribbon yarn? (Scroll down here (http://www.yarnharlot.ca/blog/archives/2007_04.html)for the red and orange scarf) Online "Linie 194 Solo" You could knock up a fair few Christmas pressies very quickly from that. I have the tutorial on how to knit it saved somewhere.

Lots and lots of sock yarn! They are HUGE sock knitters. When I was in Austria the knitting shop in the town I was in had a HUGE selection - sadly I wasn't into knitting then - kicking myself now!!

I've just got back from Germany today and was expecting to bring back loads of yarn goodies. I didn't manage to find anything exciting that I haven't already got. There is lots of sock yarn but I think we Sheffielders have caught up with their sock obsession and have just as much as they do.

That saddens me to hear that :( But did you have a good time??

I had a great time. But, even better, I have a knitting convert. Verena, one of the people out there, watched me knitting last year. Since then she has taken it upon herself to learn and is now busy knitting her second jumper. I feel so proud!:)
