For some reason I thought there was a thread about this film, but cannot find it, I have been waiting for this film to come out and saw it tonight and must say its quite amazing.

The special effects were brilliant and a must see movie.

I never got over Optimus Prime snuffing it in the cartoon series, I cried my eyes out. So I am very aprehensive going to watch this film, as it could potentially be very painful and open up old wounds.

You just knew it was going to be a great movie after the first 10 mins, I would love to know how they did some of those scene, mouth dropping effects

I thought it was yet another terrible Michael Bay film. The Transformers were secondary characters in their own film. The CGI was good, when the robots were stationary, but a blurred mess of parts in combat sequences. The plot was terrible, with the story only moving along by coincidences as opposed to an actual coherent storyline. As for the personalities given to the 'bots - oh dear! Some scenes felt like I was watching Carry On Autobots as opposed to Transformers (especially the scene at the Witwicky home when Sam is trying to stop his parents seeing the bloody big robots outside - cringeworthy!)

The only pleasant surprise was young Shia LaBeouf in the role of Sam. A surprisingly likeable actor, and I look forward to seeing Disturbia with him in when it lands here in the UK. The rest of the cast were awful - non more than Meagan Fox who has to be the worst actress I've seen in a long while.

Michael Bay is a hack director, who hates Transformers (he said so in interviews, stating that he didn't want to make this sh***y toy movie, but then relised it would make cash), so why was he given the task?

I'm going to stick with the animated movie.

A big thumbs down here. I wasn't expecting much from it, and it delivered just that. As far as I'm concerned this isn't Transformers, it's Michael Bay's Bad Bots.

Well firstly I wouldn't mind seeing it and secondly my 5 year old son isn't actually going to give a monkeys about the directorship.

Its a fun film - get over it.

Did you have your eyes open during the movie ?

Sadly I did - which is why I mentioned the messy effects in the fights. Sorry, but CGI fuelled mess like this rank alongside the Star Wars prequels in my book - as in 'great idea, but terribly put together'

To Salster - I hope you enjoy it, and your kid does too (really, I hope lots of people see it twice - more cahs for us at the cinema!). I'm sure my 5 year old son will also love it, but having seen it myself I much rather prefer the fun of the comics and cartoon series which actually seem more mature than Bay's attempt at making a "believable" adaptation. As for telling me to 'get over it' - excuse me for expressing an opinion when someone asked what people who had seen it thought! Heaven forbid I have a different opinion to someone else on a subject!

Agree 100%.
It stank but the boy loves it so i suppose thats all that matters.
And i cried like a little girl when Prime died in the cartoon too.
Ultra Magnus was a terrible replacement 'leader' and as for Rodimus Prime, dont get me started:roll:

I remember the shock when Prime died in the movie! I was gobsmacked! Traumatized me it did!

Then they went and did it again in the comic - but set before he died in the movie! That really messed with my head!

But he only dies because Megatron was a cheat and Hotrod was a w****r so i got some comfort from that.
Still cant believe the made Optimus Primes murderer the leader of the Autobots.

I've just seen the trailer. Maybe it's worth watching cos the CGI effect is so great. It's always better to see such type of movies in a big screen.
Unless of course you own a big LCD tv... grr.

Yes I think this will be better in a cinema to watch, I saw it on my 19" monitor and it was ok, might have a trip to the cinema to see.

Transformers2 is set for 2009,

Apparently Hasbro killed off lots of the main robots so that they could introduce a new line of figures to make more dollars. How dare they mess with my childhood the buggers!

Nope.

I went to see Transformers Saturday, it was properly the best film Ive seen all year so far. The action, comedy and look of the film were cool!

Before I went to see it I was a bit unsure if I would like it and thought it would be one of them good but cheesy films, but I was very wrong.

If u are wanting to go the pics and are wondering what to watch, I recommend this film

Far from it! Loved Transformers as a kid - still read the comic and love the cartoon now. Hated this Michael Bay directed piece of trash!

I mean - it had Bumblebee urinating on someone for laughs!! Not forgetting the tons of plot holes scattered throughout.

Nope, it was Star Wars episode 3 all over again - lots of CGI to blind the masses to the weak nature of the acting and story (Shia LaBeouf excluded - he was okay and shows potential). Then again, I've never been any fan of Michael Bay (Armageddon sucked, The Island was a mess, Pearl Harbor - well....let;s just stop there) and expected him to cock it all up - especially given his own disdain for the cartoon and comic (stated in many interviews).

I'm with f_g on this one - TF stunk!

The reviews I read said it's best to treat it as a comedy.

I mean, come on - it's a film based on an 80s cartoon designed to sell TOY ROBOTS! It ain't gonna be Citizen Kane! (Oh yes, there's a link there somewhere...)
