Is it a specific person or numbers. If it is a specific person you just contact the registrar and for a fee of £7 they will look it up and supply you with a death certificate. If you want to check a date then the local archives have the BMD register which is Birth Marriages and Death that you can look up free of charge or there is the BMD online.
