Was working on Woodthorpe yesterday, noticed it has become really run down around the hastilar road/fishponds bit, and I also witnessed undercover police raid a house on Aughton Cresent lol. Work on estates all over sheffield and have to say that although it's not got the reputation of other areas, it seems more threatening and run down than most to me. Also noticed that the area doesn't have an action plan like Arbour, wybourn, manor park, shirecliffe, foxhill, px etc. Does anyone know if the area will be regenerated?I know they have a new school there but other parts reminded me of the manor before they rebuilt it.

I too noticed it seems to have become rather run down. Lots of homes bordered up and fences falling over. The contrast can be seen on Hastilar Road South, on one side of Richmond Road it's pretty decent, on the other it looks like tornados hit it.

There is the Woodthorpe Development Trust set up about 10 years a go I think. Still a dump though, the forgotten estate it seems.

wouldnt live there rent free

me neither!
Doesn't seem to be any plan for regeneration. Typical SCC. Let's give everyone on the manor a new house but forget about the adjacent estate

I hope people who live on the woodthorpe estate come on and defend their homes . There are to quote a SF favourite word scum that live on this estate , there are also decent people. No matter where you live crimes will be committed.

i lived on aughton crescent and although i grew up a few roads away, spinkhill area, i couldnt wait to move, in the short time i was there this all happened to me....

on bonfire night the locals pulled down my fencing and took it to be used on there bonfires
my doors and windows were egged frequently
i got broke into and a large amount of items stolen.
they tried to get in again despite me having installed a house alarm.
my cat was also catnapped. (although i think this is more to do with kids picking him up and taking him to the otherside of the estate. he couldnt find his way home. thankfully my mum saw him and he run and jumped inside her car, he is now a huge cat and not a little kitty :))
i was verbally abused on a number of ocassions and used to dread walking home.

in my opinion it is even worse now than it was there, im sure that there is still decent families still living on the estate, but the majority ruin it for everyone else. the council did nothing, despite me reporting that all my fencing had been stolen, that i had been the victim of crime and they even had the cheek to put a letter through my door stating that there was a clause in the contract i had with them that said i must keep my garden looking neat, tidy and secure!!!!!?!?!? what was the point in me putting more fencing up for it to be tore down.

needless to say i kept a dossier of everything that happened, my gp wrote a letter saying that living in this environment was damaging for my health and northern counties re-homed me in 4 weeks. i moved to castle court and didnt look back!

Woodthorpe has gone Stock Transfer and is no longer under the management of Sheffield Homes. The new RSL is Acis www.acisgroup.co.uk

Woodthorpe Development Trust is still up and running as is working hard to get more money into the area.

Woodthorpe has long been called the forgotten estate and was not lucky enough to receive the European money that other areas of Sheffield got during the last 10 years or so. However after reading comments on this thread l feel that alot of people seem to be abit misinformed about Woodthorpe.

Some of the housing is boarded up and especially around the Nodder Road area the first impression is unsightly. This is being looked into by the new Registered Social Landlord (RSL) ACIS that have recently took over from the former landlords Sheffield Homes. No one in the right mind can expect this sort of work to be done in the first few weeks of taking control of housing stock.

Woodthorpe Development Trust is one of the fastest growing voluntary sector organisations in Sheffield and employs alot of local people. Along with Woodthorpe TARAmany other partners and agencies they are actively working to improve life on the estate for people. I live here and l know this is happening.

Over the next 10 years ACIS will be investing around £25M to improve the housing and area through solid investment. This will mean that there will be alot of improvements around the estate.

The crime levels in the area are far lower than many other areas of Sheffield and the young people in the area are making positive contributions.

It may not be the utopia of housing estates but it certainly isn't as bad as it's painted.

A very small minority of residents do cause some problems, the other 99% are decent people, hard working, friendly and caring. Woodthorpe is a good community, like the rest of the country there are problems but nothing that can't be sorted out over time.

Give us a break please!!!
