So Sven Goran Ericsson, the ultra-flop for England who blew our best three chances of a major trophy since 1966 (costing us sackloads of dosh in the process) has become manager of Manchester City. Bear in mind he has been sacked by several clubs, and only became England manager after being fired from his previous job. So how will Ericsson fare at Manchester City?

I am happy with Eriksson's appointment and think he will do much better than the two previous incumbents. I think he is a very good manager and whilst costing England a large pay-out, I'd rather blame certain individuals for England's eliminations eg Beckham and Seaman v Brazil - plus anything is likely in penalty shoot-outs. Remember how many other managers England has had, and only one triumphed as a winner - when as hosts, England didn't have to qualify in 1966. That's by the by, I think City will improve now that rabble-rouser Barton is gone, to be followed soon by Pearce's lamentable signings?

It all depends who he brings in between now and the start of the season. If he doesn't make quality new signings and stick with the majority of the current squad I can see a season of struggle for Man City. Though I can't see relegation as if they are in trouble around January I can see the new owner splashing out.

Do get your facts straight.

Eriksson resigned from Lazio to take over England, after winning Serie A, the Italian Cup, Italian Super Cup (twice), UEFA Cup Winners Cup and UEFA Super Cup across 4 seasons. What takes the shine off it, is Eriksson spent £274million to do this.

Eriksson also achieved the highest point percentage in internationals of all time for an England manager. So he must be doing something right.

My issue with Sven is that as a motivator, he is hopeless. This is something that has cost him dear with our national team. As someone who was renowned for his tactical nous before he came to England, I've been puzzled by some of his selections. Andy Johnson at right wing? Interesting stuff indeed.

He isn't the most loyal of managers either. Remember when he was signed to take over Blackburn then backed out at the last minute when Lazio came knocking?

Overall, Sven is too defensive in his approach for me. He's more suited to Serie A than the Premiership.

Eriksson's statistical record is pretty good; he was not unique in falling short with the England team.

I think he'll do very well this season, top half finish for certain. I think in the next few seasons is when you'll really see city transformed and probably win something.

Never understood why everyone hates Sven. He did quite well for England although he might not actually have won anything but thats because the team is crap.

No - he had the most overrated squad though.

We had a better squad in 1970, at least as good in 1990 when we got to the semis (probably better as in those days more English players were wanted by continental teams) and probably had the best chance in Euro 96 being hosts and having Shearer at the peak of his game.
