My tv gets switched on If a friend comes around and they want to see the football results. Sometimes it is off for a month or more. I find it quite offensive when I'm at someone else's house and they just have the tv on all the time. I find it very hard to concentrate with the flashing screen and blaring adverts, and often find myself prefering to sit in the kitchen to chat rather than sit in a lounge which is dominated by a tv. And even when I was a child I used to switch it off if nobody was watching it. An hour later my brother would throw a tantrum and ask me why I JUST turned it off, and that, "He was watching it", although when quizzed he could never tell me what programme was on.
It amuses me when I go for a walk at night at how many zombies you see hypnotized in front of their tv, as if all the life has been sucked out of them. I am convinced that it can only have a detrimental effect to their physical heath, and possibly mental health in the long run.
I also consider it to be astonishing how many houses you walk past at any time night or day and the tv is on from morning until bedtime with nobody watching it. What an incredible annoyance and waste of electricity.

I do not intend this to make me seem like I am claiming that I see myself as superior in any way. I just find tv unpleasent. Don't get me wrong I do specifically sit down and plan to watch things on occasion. But I like to give those things my undivided attention.

The TV drives me crazy at times in my house. I seem to be forever turning it down or off altogether. I watch little tv really as I can always find something else to do. Don't get me wrong, I do watch it but not as much as most people I know. The kids put it on in a morning and as soon as they get home from school and it drives me up the wall! I know people who use the excuse that they have it on for background noise. If that's the case, why not put the radio on or listen to a CD instead?

I would say that my kids appear to control the Tv in our house but when I say it goes off, it does!!

Well looking in people's windows would mean there's no need for reality TV. THANK GOD!

It's funny you should say that. When I was a youth we used to go garden hopping. And whenever there was a room with a tv on and someone watching, you could go right up to an uncurtained window and as long as you didn't bang on the window, they never looked. It was as if the tv was sucking their soul out. And they were physically unable to avert their gaze. :o

It can be good if you take a universal remote controll out with you.

Watch their surprise as the channel changes as if by magic - or the sound goes up to 10 :hihi:
