I'm really excited about the book too! That's my weekend plans sorted :D Hecate 12-07-2007, 20:39 I'll certainly be buying the book on the morning of its release, and I'll have finished it by the evening. I'm hoping that the leaked ending isn't accurate, and that the writing is a significant improvement on the last one :suspect: . I'm not massively keen on the films (the third one was the highlight), though I'll undoubtedly watch it when it's released on DVD. The books are superior. discodown 12-07-2007, 20:41 By the time you buy your book i'll have finished mine! It'll be a midnight opening for me. I really am that sad! Hecate 12-07-2007, 20:44 By the time you buy your book i'll have finished mine! It'll be a midnight opening for me. I really am that sad! Believe me, I'm tempted. Just my inherent laziness and the thought of a book shop full of hyper, over-excited under-tens puts me off. Clare85 12-07-2007, 20:45 I wanted to go tonight but the only seats available were at the front. No good really, want to enjoy it....not have a neck ache! mojo1 12-07-2007, 20:47 For the first time ever Amazon reported selling more copies with the adult cover Alot of people who started with the first book when it came out are now getting into adulthood so it's no suprise. Rich 12-07-2007, 21:46 I'm 31 and have all 4 current films on DVD and most of the books up at Mum and Dad's. Much prefer HP to Lord of the Rings as well, the LOTR films are well, a bit boring IMO. wwcrazy 13-07-2007, 22:55 Went yesterday to see the film. It was ok, but then again Im not a great fan. My overriding opinion is that the 'kids' are too big now to be playing kids. xxsarahxx 14-07-2007, 06:18 my kids are absolutely harry potter mad, they love it...but i must say im a bit of a secret fan myself..:hihi: whitewitch 14-07-2007, 10:26 went to see the film on thursday, was slightly dissapointed, but i did expect it, as i thought The order of the Pheonix book wasnt up to much either. leviathan13 14-07-2007, 10:44 As with any fantasy/fiction book, it's for anyone with an imagination. C.S. Lewis may have intended the Chronicles of Narnia to be aimed at children, but I know more adults that have read them. As with Harry Potter. To me, a book is a book and, no matter who it's aimed at, if you get some joy out of it, then isn't that all that matters? I'd rather hear of an adult reading Harry Potter than watching Big Bother (no, it's not a spelling error). At least they are using their imagination rather than leaving their brain to rot in the pit of inaneness. discodown 14-07-2007, 14:01 Does it matter? Are the dark materials books for kids? Not at all Mathom 15-07-2007, 15:46 Does it matter? Are the dark materials books for kids? Not at all I often wonder how kids get on with those at all, they've got so many complex ideas in them! I had to read through HDM three times before I felt like I'd properly understood what Pullman was trying to say. I'm skipping the latest Potter film because I HAVE to read through books 5 and 6 again before next Saturday and I'm running out of time! *panic* I'm convinced Rowling put more adult stuff in there as she went on - "Order" for example has some great satire on civil servants! The books really began to get great after "Azkhaban" - before that they were more kid-oriented (though still fun for grown ups of course ;) ). discodown 15-07-2007, 15:53 I often wonder how kids get on with those at all, they've got so many complex ideas in them! If it's done right (or wrong depending on your opinion) it'll be scariest kids film ever made. With regards to the original question, is HP for kids or adults, I think the answer is it doesn’t matter. It isn’t very often that kids and adults are genuinely excited to read a book, they are with the Harry Potter series. FallenAngel6 15-07-2007, 22:48 i absolutly loved the film, i watched it with my little brother and i loved it, so did he. The graphics were brilliant and although they missed bits out from the book but it was a three hour film so if they hadnt then it would have been painfully long lol. Definately eight out of ten very very good and definately for people of all ages. from Fallen Happy_camper 16-07-2007, 10:30 I loved it too! Can anyone tell me if it is pervy to fancy HP when I am 31? I'm slightly worried that it might be.....:help: FallenAngel6 16-07-2007, 16:05 No dont worry bout it hun he has a nice body...but i really fancy Ron and alot of my friends think im sick lol. But hes so adorable and cuddly and an absolutely fantastic actor. I watched driving lessons the other day and well...i didnt realise how much he had grown up since the first harry potter...you'll understand if you seen it... from Fallen Happy_camper 17-07-2007, 08:11 :o Nice one Fallen, I have found several other ladies in their 30s who think Harry is tasty so if I'm a perv I'm in good company  |
