CarolW Â Â 10 #1 Posted July 12, 2007 Who are they??? Â I love Ansel Adams' work, his landscapes of the American wilderness, he and John Muir did so much towards preserving the National Parks. Â Have a look at http://www.anseladams.com... Â While I was in Tucson, Arizona last year, I saw an exhibition of Richard Avedon's work - life size portraits, from his exhibition "In the American West" He was commissioned to do a series of images, portraying the people of the West. Instead of photographing the Great and the Good and the Not-So-Good of Hollywood, he roamed the country and took photos of ordinary folk, miners, oil-workers, down-and-outs, teenagers.... all photographed against a white background. When the exhibition was opened, there was an outcry that "these weren't the people of the American West" Â Some fantastic pictures...... Bago   10 #2 Posted July 15, 2007 I'm quite into B&W photos too. I love Ansel Adams also. I remember seeing one of his print in Meadowhall and was hooked and mesmerised since then. There's normally a few exhibitions here and there in London on his work. I do respect him since he has such passion and dedication to his work throughout his life time. In exhibitions, there's normally some developmental work which is shown, and you can see how painstakng the work was to capture the right time, the right moment, and to even predict the weather to grasp the lighting and the overall look. He must know the chosen landscape well over the course of the years. For that, I think that his work is worthy.  I also like Cartier-Bresson's work too. Every photo is almost a work of art, and it tells a story. I like his work based in Paris the most.  http://www.magnumphotos.com/  I also have a soft spot for people shots. CarolW Â Â 10 #3 Posted July 16, 2007 I also have a soft spot for people shots. Â Have a look at http://www.intraview.fr/expo/ (Unfortunately not a lot of photos!! - I tried accessing other websites, but was unable to...!!) Â I went to a training course in France last year, there was an exhibition by this photographer at the company... He bicycled across SE Asia, from Katmandu to Vietnam and took photos of the people he met. He put an exhigition on (called "Regards" ) in aid of the French Cystic Fibrosis Society. Bad_Hair_Day   10 #4 Posted September 11, 2007 Peter Lik (http://www.peterlik.com.au) - he's an Australian photographer and has taken some fantastic landscape and cityscape shots. We've got a couple of his prints at home that we bought from his galleries in Cairns and Sydney, and one of his books, where he describes his feelings as he took each shot. Â Gosh, yes, I forgot about this guy!!! I went to his gallery in Cairns several years ago, I have quite a lot of his small books with photos from around different parts of Australia and I bought the coffee table book for my parents - my luggage would have been well over the weight limit, I had to post a lot of it back home!! :hihi: Â It looks as if he's done some work in the USA as well.... I'll be going to the USA in 3 weeks and 2 days time (I'll have to keep my eyes open) ..........
 Share this content via...

JoanCrawford   10 #8 Posted September 12, 2007 I'd agree that Cartier-Bresson's work was amazing, there was an exhibition of his less well known pics at the Graves a couple of years ago. I also love Norman Parkinson's work, quirky but stylish and captured the era perfectly. I used to work in London and was lucky enough to go to evening do's at Hamilton's Gallery and he'd turn up wearing a smoking jacket and little monogrammed slippers. The Photographer's Gallery near Leicester Square was also fab, a ramshackled building full of little rooms, each room filled with drawers and drawers of photos to rummage through.
