View Full Version : Internet Explorer Problems
cloudybay 12-07-2007, 17:51 'Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close' ................now, I've had this message on occasions over the years but during the last few weeks the frequency has become ridiculous. So far tonight, I've had my applications closed down twice in less than two hours. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem ?
Nope.
But I'm going to do something I've never done before, and recommend that you try Firefox.. Ordinarily I hate the thing having tried it before, but if IE is giving you grief, FF is the next best browser apparently.
fnkysknky 12-07-2007, 17:57 Easy solution would be to change to a different browser as it could be numerous things causing the problem with IE. If you really must stick with IE then repair/reinstall it.
Have you got any toolbars installed? I found the Yahoo one made my IE crash a lot.
cloudybay 12-07-2007, 18:03 Thanks peeps. I tried Firefox last year but whilst I liked certain elements of it, others were a pain such as losing my spell checker and also not all websites are as accessible.
I'm going to be different again and suggest Netscape Navigator version 9 just out. (not Netscape browser)
I believe firefox is the cut down version. But I love Netscape Navigator to bits and it has a spell checker.
I expect there will be the usual Opera buffs out there as well. :)
Oh yeah I'm an Opera buff... I just love listening to Russell Watson... Ha ha ha! Boom Boom!
Have you recently installed any add-ons or plug-ins on IE? If so try un-installing them.

None. I think I'll un-install IE though !

FF has a spellchecker extension.
not all websites are as accessible.
They'll be the poorly coded sites then (mostly).
fnkysknky 12-07-2007, 18:29 Firefox 2 has a built in spell checker. You'll need to download the English (British) dictionary though as the Yanks can't spell :)
Nope.

Safari (ok, or opera) > All ;)
Cloudybay - first thing, between crashes, have you re-booted the PC?
Sometimes exception errors leave the computer in a 'state' no matter what Microsoft says should or shouldn't happen. Generally after exception errors I reboot.
Are you running anti-virus and anti-spyware software?
