View Full Version : How to post pictures..
As you probably know, we can't post images directly on the forum, but what we can do is post links to the pictures.
Here's a good way to do this, using Photobucket.
All you need to do is go to photobucket (http://photobucket.com/register.php?ref=headerregister) and create an account (it's free!).
Once you've got your account, click on the 'Browse' button in the 'Upload To' box, making sure that 'Images from my PC' is highlighted. This will let you find the photo on your computer that you want to post. Once you've done that, click 'Upload', and your photo will appear in Photobucket.
Now you need to post the link to it on here. All you need to do is copy all the information in the 'URL Link' box underneath your photo, and paste it into your message. Clicking once in the 'URL Link' box is sufficient for the link to be copied automatically.
People will now be able to click on your link and see your photo.
Practice posting in this thread is you wish. I'll leave it open for that reason. :)
(although I asked Hecate for permission for stealing this post from the knitting group, I decided to go ahead anyway with the forethought that she wouldn't mind, and that she isn't online at silly times like me:hihi:)
I've also set up an "in-house" gallery website at www.sheffieldphotos.com. I thought it might be nice to have a place where people from this group can have all their pictures together, and we could also use it for hosting competition entries, winners etc.
Should be fairly self-explanatory to use - there is a Register link on the top-right to create an account. This should then create an album owned by your username in the root where you can upload photos. You can also create albums within albums to get a directory structure.

Did you ask, I can't remember... :suspect:
And of course I don't mind. Besides, you've changed the odd word here and there sufficient to make it your own :P .

I've already copied and pasted Hecates photo link, I hope she won't mind.

I have 1000's of Photos, I'll post a few up tomorrow..
Sort of a small hobby of mine :)
I have a few as well. Mind if I post 'em?

Post away. There are a few running threads sharing pictures, or start a new one.:)
miraclemaxx 22-02-2008, 20:00 Is there not a way the mods could enable images to be displayed just for the photography forum section?
It would make it allot more user friendly and I feel it would attract more users.
What are other peoples thoughts and is it feasable?

I think I asked about this a while back, I can't remember the answer, so I shall ask Admin, and post the answer when I receive it. :)
The official admin answer:
Hosting of photos on a forum is a resource that is server and bandwidth intensive and whilst it would improve the look of things for the photography group it would also help the craft group, the knitting group and probably most of the rest of the groups.
It's very hard to make a case for adding this for one group and not another, or for the groups and not for the main forum.
The increase in server and bandwidth necessary to allow a forum of this size and traffic to allow photos to be shown embedded into posts rather than as a link would in all likelihood necessitate a complete hardware upgrade and an enormous increase in bandwidth, which costs money that Geoff has to put his hand in his pocket for.
In addition to this lots of feedback from users tells us that lots of users actually like the calm, image free pages on the forum, when contrasted with forums which are rather busy and which have images in signatures, large avatars and the like.

Why wouldn't it be possible to at least enable embedding of images in the photography forum? You could introduce size limits on the photos, and (if vB is on par with IPB at the moment) you can set limits in the ACP that lets you limit the size of photos that are embedded, and force the browser or server to resize them as it displays them if they are too large.

This might be a good question to ask on the Forum suggestions (Beta) (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=24) bit of the site if you havent already :)
I've done that now Grissom.
I suspect we might get the usual "it's too server intensive" or "users don't want to see huge images". The first of which isn't true, and the second I'm sure wouldn't be an issue if they didn't on a forum-by-forum basis.
(:

Feel free to practice in this thread pattricia. ;)
I think it would be VERY USEFULL to have the image tag ([img]) ENABLED ON THIS BASE,then it would be easier posting images of photos and such........
