View Full Version : The music thingy thread again.
Eeee, that Dennis bloke used to post some canny tunes on this thread didn't he?
Now this one (http://www.mediamax.com/snuh/Hosted/thin_lizzy-whiskey_in_the_jar.mp3) my Mummy used to play to me when I was knee high to a Salfordian Grasshopper

This (http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/files/1189474_uubcl/X-Japan-CrucifyMyLove.mp3) is X-Japan.

I only have their word for it that this (http://ninebullets.s3.amazonaws.com/tori_amos_-_Hit_Me_Baby_One_More_Time.mp3) is Tori Amos, though this (http://ninebullets.s3.amazonaws.com/Bowling_For_Soup_-_Hit_Me_Baby_One_More_Time.mp3) is Bowling For Soup.
Just rediscovered these (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwtSdJaPCSI&feature=related)
Whatever happened to this (http://www.thematteroutofplace.com/mp3/postboitedenuit/019%20James%20Morrison%20-%20You%20Give%20Me%20Something.mp3) bloke?
This (http://klim.doslash.org/files/music/radiohead__wish_you_were_here.mp3) cover is labelled as Radiohead, but I think it's actually Sparklehorse. I like it anyway.
The Miracles (http://dukeofstraw.com/compare/Miracles.mp3) original plus two (http://dukeofstraw.com/compare/Him.mp3) covers (http://dukeofstraw.com/compare/Thao.mp3) I like almost as much (the first one is Zooey Deschanel).
Nick Lowe (http://www.mcmuffin.co.uk/mr_and_mrs_mcmuffin/files/cruel_to_be_kind.mp3), an Elv contributor, producer and writer of '(What's So Funny About) Peace Love and Understanding?'.
Inspired by another thread (http://www.copadorer.com/everybodyhurts.mp3).
And the original (http://www.wasone.com/mp3player/tracks/REM%20-%20Everybody%20Hurts.mp3).

The lonely Shepherd. (http://www-rcf.usc.edu/~lanlanwa/music/lonely_shepherd.mp3)
I have found another new toy (http://g2p.org/) too.
I used to like these. They're not bad.

That's very useful indeed. It's a prettier front end to something similar I have bookmarked (though this one apparently works better).

I have a demonstration.
This (http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/files/1212691_rbdjm/Acid_Jazz.wav.MP3) was around for years, it's a little catchy SID tune.
This (http://www.fina-fisken.net/00mp3/jen/Loose-2006-RNS/09-nelly_furtado-do_it.mp3) is what Timberland did, he said it was his own work. It's behind Nelly's voice. Though done well.
I like this (http://remix.kwed.org/files/RKOfiles/Moog%20and%20Hazel%20-%20Acid%20Jazz%20(Grand%20Theft%20Audio).mp3) one though.
I like that, who is it by?...
GlaDOS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal_%28video_game%29#Soundtrack) :D .
Written by this bloke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Coulton). There's apparently a version sung by him on The Orange Box soundtrack, but I haven't been able to track it down (hint hint).

This (http://iguessimfloating.net/assets/mp3s/08%20Band%20On%20The%20Run.mp3) song is called Band on the run.
I think we should have our own Band aid (http://tekarats.com/media/Band_Aid_-_Do_they_know_its_christmas.mp3).
I'm reminded of (http://www.artinfo.ru/ru/news/wavreports/JeTaime_SGainsburg-JBirkin.mp3) these (http://neileslifestorage.com/Please_Purchase/frankie_goes_to_hollywood-relax.mp3).

Which always reminds me of this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKCv2qGMkF0), which is quite appropriate lately :hihi: .
And I love this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tzPLkR0Ycg&feature=related) cover almost as much as the original.

LOL It's the singing barmaid :hihi: . My bloke at the time had a huge crush on her. I did like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99uh6WZRR0Y) one though.
Talking of the 80s, your starter for ten. Who's doing backing vocals on this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkxbyJHg-Bc&feature=related) one?
Was it Georgios Poppoddolous?

Have some (very literal, from the video) REO Speedwagon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgWABKQpvqA) (sorry about the subtitles), and a bit of David Soul (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YY8APrYU2Gs) :D .

There's either no sound on that, or YouTube has buggered up for me again.
Though I have heard it before, and it does give me an excuse to post this (http://www.dcr.net/~mmangler/Da_Vincis_Notebook-Internet_Porn.mp3) again.

It was. And from a much better film (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hGlYT38DZY) than Mermaids is this one.
I can't remember a song from an infinitely superior Heathers.

They might want to have fun (http://coverfreak.com/media/080420-Girls-Just-Want-to-Have-Fun.mp3), but they don't sound very enthusiastic about it.
This is more Sheffield, Ohio (http://coverfreak.com/media/080420-Pour-Some-Sugar-On-Me.mp3).
And while I'm in a tinkly piano mood, this (http://coverfreak.com/media/080420-Teen-Spirit.mp3) classic cover.
And for those who haven't heard it, Ben Folds (http://www.box.net/shared/static/jzzjgus4cw.mp3) is nothing if not adaptable.
This (http://www.box.net/shared/static/u5vune9wk8.mp3) is interesting.
I don't think this is Kermit covering my favourite Tears For Fears (http://www.box.net/shared/static/y2yzee9s0g.mp3) song.
But this (http://www.box.net/shared/static/kicgwl4ysw.mp3) is Ani DiFranco and Jackie Chan (the album from which it's taken is called 'When Pigs Fly: Songs You Never Thought You'd Hear').
Last one:
The original (http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/files/1237681_1rike/BeachBoys-GodOnlyKnows.mp3) and one song to the tune of another (http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/files/1237682_umbis/lyKnows_beachboyscoveronBBC_.mp3). Can you guess who it is yet? :hihi:
Really the last ones:
The above reminded me of this (http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/files/1237748_kqunf/08I_llWearItProudly.m4a.MP3) and this (http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/files/1237747_wmkfy/I_llWearItProudly.mp3) cover. Shame it's a dodgy live copy and he buggers up the lyrics. I don't think they ever recorded it.
Which reminded me of this (http://www.starshipchallenger.com/mp3/iTunes%20Music/Compilations/Bridget%20Jones_%20The%20Edge%20Of%20Reason/12%20Nobody%20Does%20It%20Better.mp3) and this (http://captainsdead.com/myron/headthom/16%20-%20Nobody%20Does%20It%20Better.mp3) cover.
This (http://www.ice-eating-monsters.com/Sound/Leave_Me_Alone_(PINK).mp3) one. Not one of her finest though, I fear ;) .
This (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080422/od_uk_nm/oukoe_uk_congo_democratic_witchcraft_1) story reminded me of this (http://8106.tv/blog/audio/08_01/MX%20BEAT%202008/03%20Black%20Magic.mp3) song by Jarvis.

That last one reminds me of the lead up to my O Level mocks, and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jk2ok338CnU&feature=related) one reminds me of my A Levels. It always gives me goosebumps just listening to her gorgeous voice, but don't you think this performance is a bit reminiscent of Victoria Wood (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZCIKjYDf1g) in her mannerisms?

Yes, very much so. I have to say I prefer Kate in this piece
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5avc6G8GME) and if I'm honest I don't think you'd have liked the stuff I listened to when I was getting ready for A levels (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZwMs2fLoVE)

Hey there Georgy Girl (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=o3nRRtwOlkM).

Fantastic 80s bombast of almost Meatloafian quality :D .
The latter was used to good effect in the film 'Urban Legend' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeNdrIEKypc&feature=related). Turn around indeed...
Just how many cigarettes do you have to smoke to get a voice like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8VGQTtENSs)?

A new (http://www.irockcleveland.com/tunes/Echoplex.mp3) one.
More brand new Death Cab For Cutie (http://www.zshare.net/audio/1151203072c5d032/). Not sure yet if this one is sad, or just a bit self-indulgent. Nice tune though.
EDIT: It takes a little while to load.

I've just heard him murder a live version of 'Hallelujah'. I do like this (http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=5564996) though, perhaps the most camp version of the very camp anyway 'Careless Whisper'.
And after listening to the Leonard Cohen original of 'Hallelujah', which I won't subject you to, I'm reminded of this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrodaLzfi5s). This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZhFFagUM_A&feature=related) is my favourite though.

If they're from more than one film, you have to guess the one I'm thinking of :D .
1. I had to cheat and I'm going with Risky Business
2. Isn't this from one of the Batman films?
3. Haven't a clue. I could say the Graduate but I don't think so.
4 is clearly Dirty Dancing. (Yes Gripper I mentioned another Patrick Swayze film)
5 is Top Gun with the teeny tiny nut job that is Tom Cruise, I really don't like that film.

I shall get in touch with the forum psychics and ask them which one you're thinking of. I have a faint image of a film but I can't retrieve it.
I don't know which Batman film. I only really remember the first two and they weren't famous for the music, though the first Batman soundtrack was popular. I'm going to go with either the Clooney Batman or the Kilmer Batman, I say Kilmer. Was that one Batman forever? Oh and I watched Batman Begins, that was the best of them all.
Name the film this is from. (http://toutenvrac.blogspirit.com/files/Ben_E.King_-_Stand_by_Me.mp3)

I did know it really. A bit like you might know from which film this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjt0av-GWak) is taken (though that was nearly one of the questions as I thought the film was called 'The Woman in Red', but that's another film all together (and one in which this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PY45DkaP9Ls) monstrosity features, apparently).
And in a filmy context, this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHCL6-GqyRk&feature=related) one, of course :D .
