I have a quick question i hope you can answer
I have a motherboard which is a ASrock P4i65G with a socket 478 for Intel 4 and celeron processor
My current RAM is 256MB which i need ot increase The RAM is based on a DDR400. I have put a DDR333 256MB in the spare slot, it fits fine, locks in but isn't recognised (the properties on my computer still shows 256MB not 512). Can i use a 333 or does it need to be a DDR400 memory card i put in??

It needs to be DDR400.
A DDR333 module isn't designed to run at as high a frequency as DDR400, which is the only real difference between the two, or the only one that should concern you, and so it will simply refuse to work.
DDR400 should be easy enough to find, though, and 512mb stick shouldn't be very expensive.

Nope you can buy 1gb sticks made by Samsung for as little as £30

if it is not seeing the extra module then it is not because it is 333 but because it is may be buggered,
first thing is to find out if the 333 stick actually works so with the 400 stick in go into the bios and set the memory speed to 333Mhz and memory timings to spd, then remove the 400 stick and put the 333 stick only in (in slot 1) if it boots then it works at which point switch off and stick the 400 stick in aswell and run memtest to ensure all is good, if it does not boot with only the 333 in that it's probably dead and you need to get some more ram

The 333 works as i whippped it out of a pc at work that was working. I'll get a 400 stick and take it from there
