View Full Version : A-level/AS results!
kittykat 14-08-2003, 10:53 Heres my chance to show off AND be nosy at the same time. I got 3 As and a B (in general studies which doesnt count) in my a-levels. Has anyone else got theirs and if so how did you do??
PS:Anyone who says theyre not worth the paper theyre written on etc will get a thump in the mouth by me cos trust me they ARE hard and not everyone does well in them as i saw today whilst getting mine so stop whinging just cos youre jealous at not getting any!
steelblade 14-08-2003, 10:56 Well done you!!
I did an a level in law last year but only got a D. Year before I did business studeis and got a miserable E!!
I thought business studies was really hard. Then again I am terrible at maths so I didn't really stand a chance. Having said that half of the class didn't even pass the exam so I did better than some.
Im doing a HND in computer studies this year and hope to do much better, fingers crossed.
Loads of congratulations Kittykat . They certainly are hard. I screwed mine up properly years ago, its so much easier to get it right first time around.:) :)
Are you going on to Uniservity?
DaBouncer 14-08-2003, 10:58 I never took my A levels so I can't comment on there worth, but it seems to me the media are making out they ARE too easy. You may have first hand experience that they aren't but the media's voice is louder than yours. So when it comes time to use them, ordinary people like me, who may be doing the employing may feel otherwise (i.e. they aren't worth a great deal)... please don't thump me... it's just an observation.
However, that said... well done on the grades! You must have studies hard to get them (I hope that didn't sound sarcastic, cos it isn't meant that way):? 8)
Congratulations, that seems pretty good. I know how hard they are 'cause I keep having a go at different papers I find, how sad is that?
How about a poll asking people what academic (or other) level they have achieved? I can't be a*sed myself but someone might be.
kittykat 14-08-2003, 11:02 thanks! Its not fair of the media really to undermine our efforts like that. I bet they were all proud when they got their results and got into their beloved media courses - why dont they let us have the same moment of glory without spoiling it. I admit the grades are getting better and better and the pass rate is very high but surely thats a good thing (or because students are avoiding hard subjects)

yep ill be at uni next year - cant say im looking forwards to it really but there you go.
Have a year out then. Thats what they're for. Have a go at a couple of different things, and decide what you like. You can also reapply and go to a better uni, if your predicted grades weren't as high as the impressive ones that you got. And uni really is a lot of fun. There loads of freedom to do whatever you want
kittykat 14-08-2003, 11:15 i would LOVE to take a year out but i was lucky to get in - it went more on the interview than the grades cos of the nature of the course and there are only 20-30 places so i better go and get it over with. im sure the 3 years will fly by.
Why so down? Is it in some crap town? And what are you going to study anyway?
The other thing is, once you're in, you can always change courses. They don't tend to publicise that because people would exploit it, but they'd rather have you there, happy and finishing the course than drop out and make their statistics look bad.
cosywolf 14-08-2003, 11:27 Congratulations, Kittykat. You must be soooo relieved it's over. I know I was.
'A' levels are useful - employers still like to see qualifications on a cv/app form.
Mark and I reckon we couldn't do the papers we've seen; either they're getting harder, or we're losing all knowledge we once had (hhmm, that is a possibility...)
I was scared to death about going to uni, and also wasn't delighted at the idea of doing yet more studying, exams, and essays. But I ended up having the time of my life, and wouldn't trade that time for anything. You'll love it, practically 100% guaranteed.:D
Congrats again.

wow congrats! :D wot uni u going 2?
Tony Ruscoe 14-08-2003, 12:28 Our Head of Sixth Form told me that A-levels would be the hardest thing I ever did. Not true. My degree course was solid!
Congratulations KK! Those are results to be proud of! :D
kittykat 14-08-2003, 13:00 im going to hallam (not exactly ivy league but nevermind) doing radiography which means it is mostly based at hospitals training so i wont see much of uni to be honest. Was going to do medicine but thought i wouldnt get the grades - there was one place left through clearing at newcastle (which i wouldnt go to anyway) but it was taken in within minutes. nevermind - radiographys less work.
DaBouncer 14-08-2003, 15:53 Medicine is more money though!
Phanerothyme 14-08-2003, 16:01 I got 2 C's in my A levels, Philosophy and History.
well done !!! it's all about how much effort you put in. they're in no way easy but i think results are better because people are taking the easy subjects (that's what i did) - i went into law and they didn't give a hoot what subjects you did. one of my friends who (due to his background) could speak fluent spanish and french - he did both of them at a level - got great results and is now earning 30K+ as a lawyer. haad he not got the grades at a level, he wouldn't have got into the university and got the job he did.
you've got to work the system to your advantage !!
Congratulations Kittycat, well done, I am sure you worked very hard to pass your exams, if all young people worked the same as you this would be a much better country to live in.

Not quite the brainbox you like to portray yourself as then. What do you do, just read dictionaries as a hobby?
I am hoping to get into Hallam too.
Someone told me you only needed a bottle-opener,pack of condoms and a box of tissues to get in.
As its mostly sport-based the seminars are usually devoted to
catching beanbags, swinging on goalposts and bashing your fellow students with a designer sportsbag.
Its usually possible to be in the pub for about 4pm for a solid twelve hour binge.
Just mark your envelope "Sport and Leisure Directorate"
kittykat 14-08-2003, 23:10 Thanks for that - makes me feel a whole lot better

If you do get in which I doubt perhaps you could ask one of the lecturers to explain the word "sphincter" to you.
Well done KK:D
