Is this a sort of Personal Mission Statement thing?

Or something for a particular role?

Or your CV?

That's a new thing for me - when I did the Uni application 25 years ago I don't recall having to do such a thing!

Sorry I can't help. What about your school / college careers adviser? They might have some 'samples' to look at.

What are you having troubles with?

I could post my personal statement up, but it'd simply be an exercise in showing off IMHO.

If you wanted to see what i did for this year, how I structured it and what Mode of Address to use then it might be quite useful.

PM me with your e-mail and i will attach it, if you want that kinda help anyways.

Some basic tips I used though:

1) spend at least half of the lines talking about course specific stuff, like if you are studying the course and what you like about it, any direct voluntary experience or stuff you have done. If you are doing something arts related, talk about your portfolio and anything you particulary feel you've drawn on.

2) Never, ever put 'socialising with friends' as one of your hobbies. Everybody socialises with friends so you aren't telling them anything other than you do the normal stuff. Talk about any hobbies by all means but not just 'I like to get wasted on fridays' which is what 'socialising with friends' means

3) Always try and come across as a well rounded person, sure you can be focussed on your studies (it's a positive boon) but don't just go on about them. Talk about any work you do, and how it has developed you as a team player, a dynamic and responsible individual or someone trusted to perform some important duties.

I imagine you could get some support from the facility you are studying at, try looking at what people have one in the past.

Must depend on what courses you are going for, I look back on mine sometimes and laugh!

My first choice was fine art at Goldsmiths and wanted to be noticed!

I guess most importantly you must reflect yourself!

It really depends on what you are wanting to study and where you are going to do it as to whether it really matters or not.

To be honest I reckon as long as its in good Engish and you don't come across as a total idiot then its not going to really matter that much.

Formal Education always seemed to be a succession of having to do things I couldn't see the point of, and seemed to be a bit of a waste of time - and the personal statement just seemed like another one of those things.

But I got a poor degree, so you may not want to listen to me!
