I've just received 2 emails this morning saying i've tried to login too many times and that my accounts locked ( yet i can use it now ). Should i be worried? I don't really want to loose my account.

Part of the email says

"The person trying to log into your account had the following IP address: 72.233.34.186"

I'm guessing it's some spam robot that's either picked me at random or alphabetically but i don't know what sheffield forums ban / locked account policy is really and don't want to get locked out because of some spam tool someone is using.

Hi,

What happens is that your account is auto-locked for your safety.

Drop us a line at the heldpesk if the lock doesn't drop in an hour or so.

Contact teh Helpdesk and flag this up with teh admins.

I got hacked last year via an MSN Trojan, and it caused me alsorts of problems, some tool was going around pretending to be me and being all offensive etc on MSN etc, thankfully people know me well enough on here to know it wasn't really me as it's not in my nature to be really offensive to anyone (unless they deserve it).

This happened to me a couple of weeks ago I did contact admin but didnt get much response back but at least I think it will have been noted.

All we usually recommend is that people change their password as soon as they gain access.

Typically it's someone trying it on with randomly trying out user names.

Occasionally we have determined that someone is making a concerted effort to crack a particular account and then we've blocked the offending IP address.
