Nope. extaxman 12-12-2004, 19:42 I remeber club 60, didn't it used to be in rthe cellars of an old pub. Once went there with a mate of mine who was in the BMG (Banjo, Mandolin & Guitar) club which used to meet there regulary. Only went once, imagine 50 odd people all strumming away all at different talent levels. davemotts 13-08-2007, 16:17 RE club 60 I used this club quite a lot in the 60s. the lighting consisted of candels placed on the table(which was realy a beer barrel). They did not have a licence for alcohol(so you had to nip in the Ship inn for a quick one) the resident group was called Frankenstine & the Monsters. The lead singer(Frankenstine?) Was later known as Ray Stuart ,DJ at radio Hallam! Happy Days! Dave Norbert 05-09-2009, 16:15 There is a book about Club 60 & The Esquire full of great photos and stories. You can get it from: http://printanddesignshop.co.uk/the-story-of-club-60-and-esquire.html or http://www.amazon.co.uk/Club-60-Esquire-Sheffield-Sounds/dp/1901587266 madango41 17-01-2010, 09:52 went a couple of times with mates but our regular places where Blue moon, Mojo, and central as we livid in Attercliffe. Janet Olsen 17-01-2010, 10:00 Yep the Club 60 was another Sheffield Icon of the 60's. We went there a few times & I think one of the things I remember most about it apart from the great music was the musty smell & the darkness. As was said previously the tables were beer barrels. Good club & always plenty of people in it. harvey19 17-01-2010, 15:03 I have just found my old Club 60 membership card, number 3763. Happy memories!! gordon3 17-01-2010, 15:46 went a few times quite good saw dave berry there Gefferson 18-07-2010, 08:11 Although I am way to young to have been a member of club 60, (I wasn't even a twinkle in my dads eye!), I do know alot about this place. About 5 yers ago, Friends of my brother, bought a shop next to the ship inn, opened a printshop there which produced the above mentioned book, But low and behold, when they first went downstairs to the cellars, they found the club, intact like in a time capsule, a little damp, but everything still in place. With a group of friends including myself, we got to work and restored it. Now, although not a club as such, it still is renown amongst the muso's of the sheffield music scene as a top venue for live bands aswell as a recording studio, and venue for private parties. It still retains the old look and the arched brick ceilings give it amazing acoustics not to mention, class! skippy 23-07-2010, 12:00 RE club 60 I used this club quite a lot in the 60s. Dave Were you a drummer in the boys brigade at St Lukes, and later with JC ? peter bush 26-07-2010, 12:43 Fascinating to read about the restoration of Club 60. Whenever I pass I always think there should be a blue plaque on the door. I went a couple if times mid sixties and my brother was a member. He told me John Lennon was a member. rubydazzler 26-07-2010, 13:00 That's fascinating. I'd love to see it again. Is it really available for private parties? Can you let me have any information about that, numbers, hire etc? PM me and I'll give you my email addy. harvey19 26-07-2010, 14:04 Any chance of opening it up one afternoon to have a look around to remind us of our youth ?
