View Full Version : Bt 1471
Anybody recently noticed a change when using 1471. Now after the last number to call you has been given and you are given the option of pressing 3 to return the call, the voice tells you that you will be charged for the service of recall.
How crafty is that? So if you automatically hit the 3 button you will incur an extra charge but presumably if you punch in the number yourself you won't.
I use the service quite a lot and so will be interested to see what extra charges I get when my next bill comes.
Thanks Mo

Thanks for the info there.
I regularly use 1471, but never ring the person back...(!)

Did you not get a letter about this ?? My parents had one informing them of changes in BT's Services :suspect:
nuf_said 11-12-2004, 16:36 I noticed this recently. Also note how there's a gap after the 'press 3 instruction' and before 'there is a charge for this service'. Presumably us numpties will have already pressed 3 and not heard the bit about charges.
Note: It costs 6p to use this feature.

Also look out for increases in callback feature (when the number is engaged) and the speaking clock.
BoroughGal 12-12-2004, 01:44 Does anyone know if this is the case for cable too, or just BT?? Ta.

Can't honestly say whether I did or not. Depends if it came as a separate letter in which case the answer is no. If it came with the last bill along with the million other bits of paper that were stuffed in the envelope then possibly. I may just have filed it in B1N.
I wonder how long before they start charging for 1571?

Ahhh we operate the same kinda filing system :D
Suprises me just how many people were unaware of this new charge by BT... But then again were BT obliged to tell customers ? how many of us would notice the odd few pence here or there ?
sparklesista 12-12-2004, 13:38 I don't know if I'm mistaken but I have known that BT charge you for pressing 3 for ringback for ages! Years even! :?

There was a page telling us about this charge in the BT products glossy thing that usually arrives with the bill back in January - it came into effect in about April I think

No, ringback is when you press 5 after you have dialled an engaged number. There is and always has been a charge for this.
The service that has suddenly become chargeable is the one where you can dial 1471. You are given the number of the last person who called you, you can then opt to key in the numbers for yourself or 'press 3' which dials the number for you. This is the service that up to recently was free.
PaulTansley 13-12-2004, 04:20 Now that you mention it I heard that on 1471 to but thought nothing of it.
I expect I did recieve some lingo about charges, no doubt in the middle of a load of bumph which nobody reads.

Found this on the BT site ~:
Call Return (press 3) element of BT 1471 - from the 1st August 2004, BT will be introducing a 6p fixed fee to the Call Return element of BT 1471. The fee will apply when customers press "3" to return the call to the telephone number of the last caller and will be charged regardless of whether or not the call is connected. Dialling BT 1471 without using the Call Return will remain a free service.
Can't believe they charge even if the call isnt connected
