View Full Version : Best download client?
aelfheah 06-07-2007, 20:26 I've tried Azeurus- it used too much bandwidth.
Also utorrent, now it plays up.
So which is the fastest/best, or most easily 'tweaked'?
Cheers
then limit Azureus -- 99.9% of download clients have bandwidth limiting, you can do it per download, or globally, its in the options and not hard to find..
aelfheah 06-07-2007, 20:50 Are they the free versions of both, or pay thru the nose?
Phanerothyme 06-07-2007, 20:50 Azureus is the best one IMO also free, just throttle the upload and download speeds if required, but it is called bit torrent for a reason. You sound like you need bit trickle which hasn't been invented yet
alkatraz 06-07-2007, 23:22 BitTorrent: Azureus
HTTP: DownThemAll (http://www.downthemall.net)
alternageek 07-07-2007, 13:47 from my experience its still uTorrent. at least to work with sites like oink and bitme.
bit tornado for me but i still have bit comet on my computer i tried azerous (wrong spelling i know) but found it too fiddly
I use DC++ works a treat for me
segasonic 07-07-2007, 23:25 Bitlord for me.
Bitlord here too. The option to choose which individual files you want to download from the torrent is MOST useful!
Beakerzoid 07-07-2007, 23:55 Vuze (the new Azureus client) is my weapon of choice.
jonhanson 09-07-2007, 12:27 Newsgroups:Grabit
Torrent:Bittornado
HTTP: DAP
Although you guys still using torrents should look into news groups, way quicker!!

I don't know which bit to correct first.. no wait! I do!!
Firstly, although it may not have been your intention - you imply that newsgroups are the "new" way. I have to point out that Usenet (newsgroups) pre-dates bittorrent by a good 22 years.
Secondly, quicker is ENTIRELY subjective as you depend on a usenet server and its capabilities and restrictions. Many if not most ISP-provided usenet servers in the UK now do not provide binary groups, and they also limit access speeds to discourage binary traffic. It CAN be a lot quicker if you can find the right place to go and through the right server, but the same can be said of HTTP, FTP, IRC and many other options besides.
Rant over.

Where did I say news groups were new???
Also you are correct that most UK ISP's offer usenet service, which has little/no content.
But if your not being tight you pay the £6 a month and get unlimited download usage and 10+ connection each at around 250+ kbs.
Therefore alot faster than any peer to peer.
bigbadkev 09-07-2007, 15:44 ive been using bitcomet for a few years now and its just fine
