Me and my friend Clare are trying to work out a structure for lots of people to contribute to a giant patchwork of the 216 html colours. We've had to try and remember our school geometry lessons on how to make a hexagon with a compass (with the help of wikipedia!). The plan is to match plain colour patches with each of the html colours and embroider the 6 digit hexidecimal colour code onto each patch. If you want to make a start - use a 6cm radius for your circle so that the hexagon is 12cm in diameter :)

Do the patches have to be plain or is print/pattern acceptable?

Its easier to match a plain fabric with an html code. We thought we'd follow the Visibone hexagon mousepad colours, as it's already designed as a hexagonal layout. If you use a patterned fabric it could be tricky to stitch all the different colour codes onto it.

Hurrah - I am in Sheffield, sitting in Access Space working out how to scan in embroidery using GIMP instead of photoshop. I've already been told that the hexidecimal colour palette is 'so last century' but I'm not sure why.... Anyhow.
I've got some fabric and worked out the codes white (FFFFFF) and some navy blue (333399).

I went to the Patchwork Garden this morning, and found out that most UK patchwork is made with patterned fabric. Tricia was really helpful and explained that its American patchworkers who use plain fabrics. The Armish traditionally use plain dark colours. I've been advised to go to Karachi Stores on Attercliffe Rd, where they have some glorious bright colours. Any donations of small swatches (minimum 10x10cm) would be really helpful. Pop them into Access Space anytime or drop me a line.

Hello, I'll be in tomorrow (friday) after 12noon if that's any good for you. Just pop in and ask for Ele - I'll probably be at a computer trying to work out how to make an image of the patchwork that people can highlight their patches on.
If Friday's not a good day - then I'll be in most of the time from tuesday to friday next week.

Wandered around in the torrential rain looking for you this afternoon Ele, after my 3 hour interview (!) and when the rain started to fill my shoes I am sorry to say I gave up. I will try tomorrow if that is convenient and the weather is kinder, early afternoon any good? I have a few samples of fabric in my handbag to make into patches...

oh no - sorry about that. If you let me know a specific time - I could meet you at the Showroom Cinema tomorrow (anytime between 12noon and 6pm), and show you Access Space. We'll be patchworking in the afternoon between 2 and 4pm, everyone is welcome.
