View Full Version : Unsolicted call from 0844 773 9922
little_m 05-07-2007, 20:59 Just got a very strange call. It was a recorded message.
The man identified himself as Tom Reynolds of the Consumer Saving Panel, and asked for answers to a survey, which would give me a £50 voucher of something.. but the questions I was asked to answer were my full name, address, date of birth etc.
I did not give any details ! Has anyone come across this.

Ignore the call.
Already ignored, but we are registered with TPS which is supposed to stop these calls.
Think a call to the rozzers is in order.
mrteabag 05-07-2007, 21:10 phishing thats the word i was looking for like you get on net but over phone

The Police aren't going to give a monkeys, plus the TPS only stops registered 'reputable' firms calling you like double glazing and insurance people. It's not going to stop a foriegn Phishing gang dialling random numbers.
little_m 05-07-2007, 21:14 BE CAREFUL EVERYONE
mrteabag 05-07-2007, 21:15 just phoned the number back and left my details as bugs bunny :hihi::hihi:
he'll get a shock when he listens back to his msg's :D:D
little_m 05-07-2007, 21:27 Just done a bit of research apparently it's a common scam & is usually Internet based.
They collect the info & sell it on rather than use it themselves. That way there is no direct link for the police to follow.
********.

I was going to suggest we all phone the number back leaving bizarre details but then thought that its probably a premium line and would charge £20 a second

I think 0844 is lo-call rate like 0845. Some ISPs use 0844 for dial-up connection.
swordfish1 06-07-2007, 11:36 Just done a search, all I could find

Certainly looks dodgy
0845 numbers are local rate. You pay a £50 setup fee and all numbers are diverted to your existing telephone number.
Bomberman 07-07-2007, 01:45 Jesus wept people, it isn't hard. Someone calls that you don't know - they want personal details...
They are not after your best interests. Put the phone down.

An excellent creation theory.
But I agree. Only an idiot would hand over details.
