View Full Version : John Lewis: wool & yarn sale
When I walked into John Lewis this afternoon I saw loads of wool, yarn, cottons etc. for half the price! This friendly lady told me the sale would be for three weeks and it would be worth coming back. This as there was too much wool put away for sale to show in the shop at once.
There were also patterns you could choose from for free as long as you bought wool/yarn from them :)
Why do they always have sales when I'm banned from spending!
*wonders if it's not just the Sheffield branch*
*wishes the building contractors would hurry up and finish the Leicester branch*
*plans weekend trip to Nottingham John Lewis*
:D
I'm glad it's on for three weeks - I'm away for a week!
Went to Coles today and got 300g of alpaca, now, the nice lady there wasn't sure if it would felt or not, so I'm going to give it a little test (unless anyone out there can tell me it will anyway!) Intend on making a bag of some sorts. We'll see.
The service there is very friendly and a quite pleasant chapess taught my 4 year old how to fingerknit - now that's service for you. :)
I would imagine that this stock clearance will be a Sheffield only thing because of the branch closing down and moving.
I'm SO tempted to dig out my patterns and find something that I need to go and look for!

If it is pure alpaca and not machine washable then it should felt OK. Is this a test knit on the run up to getting your own herd/flock/whatever?:D

Nope its all across the country and even in stores owned by John Lewis but not called John Lewis. (Peter Jones on Sloane Square for instance) Even Liberty in London has a clearance on some Jaegar and Rowan yarns. Its just too tempting!

50% wool, 40% acrinton stanley and 10% Al Packa (whoever he is :suspect:) Will it felt then Ms Baa?
Madam_Bo 08-07-2007, 03:33 I got a couple of skeins of DB Alpaca Silk to make Ysolda's opera gloves. Honestly I could have bought stacks more, but I still have a heap of wool in my stash from their last sale.
Medusa: closing down? What's going on?

Its moving to the new retail quarter (just down the road when its finally built) in 2010 I believe.
knitbird 08-07-2007, 17:27 I got 10 balls of Jaeger Siena, 12 of Jaeger Aqua and 3 skeins of Debbie Bliss silk, all half price. Oh, and a pattern book too. I don't actually like the DB silk that much, but it was bargainous, and I got to use the swift so kindly given to me by W4B at the last meet. They do all have projects in mind, and one's for my mum, which makes me very virtuous and justifies buying a pair of shoes as well.
No more yarn will now be bought until August, when the new Rowan comes out.
That sounds good purchasing! And shoes too, how can you go wrong?!
I am still trying to be good and use stuff up before I buy anything else, but the temptation is great...
Madam_Bo 09-07-2007, 09:50 I nearly went for the DB silk but restrained myself - I've got plenty on the go already and I'm supposedly destashing (didn't stop me from buying Cascade 220 tweed from the Get Knitted sale, but as that's for my sister and she's paying, it doesn't count). I've already knitted half of an opera glove so I feel quite virtuous.
