Looks like I might found a house in Tinsley. Anyone know what the area is like? Close to Meadowhall I believe. I'm visiting there tomorrow, but I'm just really impatient.

View Full Version : Opinions of Tinsley please? Darkness 12-08-2003, 19:59 Looks like I might found a house in Tinsley. Anyone know what the area is like? Close to Meadowhall I believe. Jon 12-08-2003, 20:07 Tinsley is very close to Meadowhall and has a very good community sprit mouse 12-08-2003, 21:43 It's close to the M1 as well. Could be a + or a -, a convenience or too noisy! Good luck with the house hunting. We laid our nightmare to rest last September. Boxes everywhere. Never did find the budgie! Erm, Tinsley is OK so long as you don't mind run down houses and a very large.....shall we say, ethnic, community. Not to mention the M1 being right next to you and the high crime. Good luck. steelblade 13-08-2003, 13:17 Tinsley is fine aslong as you don't mind being racially abused by the majority asian population. My grandparents lived there and had to move due to the racial abuse they received, the racial abuse was directed at them because they are English, I don't know, being English and living in England, the cheek of it! Lindseyw 13-08-2003, 13:34 Don't do it ..... nuff said I thinks blondee 13-08-2003, 21:50 Lived in Tinsley until 1983, my parents moved as it was going downhill even then. I think they sold the house for £14K, and that same house now would probably only fetch £22K. Sometimes drive through on way to meadowhall and it's not a nice place. There's also lots of presssure from residents about pollution. Proximity to M1 has resulted in very high levels of asthma and other respiratory problems. Stay away!!! mslotus 14-08-2003, 22:19 Not to mention Blackburn Meadows OOhh the pong in a morning when you're taking the kids to school. I moved to Darnall to a house with a roof that leaked in about 20 places just to get away. Tinsleyrocks 12-02-2004, 13:01 I'm disgusted by all these negative comments about Tinsley. It's got fantastic transport links (M1 motorway, regular bus routes, Meadowhall train station, a canal and airport (well, it did until recently!) You can walk to Meadowhall (shoppers paradise), Centertainment (Cinema, restaraunts and bars), Ice rinks, Sheffield Arena (major concerts), Magna (acclaimed science adventure centre), and more! As for the racist comments aired, it may be true that Tinsley isn't a place for racists, but that's a good thing! There's a great community spirit and most people are very friendly to all. Babooshka 13-02-2004, 20:39 Why do you need all these means out of Tinsley if it is such a great place? You are right though. There is plenty to do of an evening and Meadowhell if you fancy a nightmare shopping expedition. Just not the most salubrious part of town is all. I moved to Darnall to a house with a roof that leaked in about 20 places just to get away. Let me guess, you have the same rachman landlord as my OH had...? (poor B-in-law is still there...) (This ratbag my OH rented from took five years + to repair a hole in the roof, but the bedroom is still unuseable, and there's a boarded up window pane that still hasn't been replaced after a burgulary in 99/2000) It's a pity some of these ratbags couldn't be as quick and as keen on doing the repairs as they are on snatching the rent out of our hands! I am very grateful to my landlord, a Housing Association; they are very keen on getting the repairs done, as fast as possible. I mean, on tuesday, at 12.00 midday, I reported a pair of doors in my property which were sticking. On friday afternoon, at 1pm, a carpenter was at my door, and the job was done! I can't fault them! Plain talker qazitory 18-02-2004, 13:39 Like most areas there are good and bad bits. But I think there must be a reason why houses are going for less than 30k! si@guisborough 20-02-2004, 18:52 Lived on Newburn drive, 50 yards from `on slip` to M1. Atrics thundering up the ramp doesn`t bother you much after a while. Some young Asians nearby were friendly to us, but we were frowned on I think. Think carefully!" jessycar 06-03-2004, 18:27 I wouldn't do it. My nan lives there. Despite the speed bumps, car speed around the area & the roads can be blocked by two drivers having a chat in the middle of the road :loopy: Apparently the new housing estate near the church is quite nice but you are close to a very busy main road. Community spirit? U joking? Ned Ludd 11-03-2004, 14:27 Ask why the local Co-Op was forced to close Abdul 11-03-2004, 16:41 Originally posted by jessycar ...the roads can be blocked by two drivers having a chat in the middle of the road :loopy: Oh but that can happen anywhere where Asians or chavs congregate  kipper 21-03-2008, 05:49 Looks like four years of lines about Tinsley have disappeared. Tinsley has its own website www.sheffield9.net which is authored by local residents and not any council or paid body trying to hype the place. It is probably one of the safest and quietest areas of Sheffield with very low house prices and excellent services close to Meadowhall the interchange and the M1. You can get to Leeds or Nottingham or Manchester in 1 hour The area does suffer from polution by noise, deisel fumes, Blackburn Meadows and more recently sterecycle on Sheffield Road. BIG ERN 21-03-2008, 07:19 Some of the film "Amongst Giants" which had Pete Postlethwaite in it was filmed in the pub on the main road Fox and Duck i think, C haze 13-04-2008, 22:49 Tinsley is only a small area of Sheffield. Asians are likely experience racial abuse in a number of areas in Sheffield but I doubt the white majority of the city even knows or cares about this. Tinsley isnt the only area the asians have swarmed on. Just look at what happened to Fir Vale and look at what is happening to Nether Edge/Abbeydale. Dont go to Tinsley you will regret it. Or if anyone out there remembers my family the Ibbotson's get in touch. xx pinner 11-01-2011, 23:07 When boundaries were last revised, why did no-one notice the M1 and decide that Tinsley should now be part of Rotherham? People like to live around other people similar to themselves. Hadron 14-01-2011, 11:31 Like any place you get out what you put in. The local website for Tinsley (http://www.sheffield9.net) sheffield9.net has some great info about the place. The houses will stay and people will move on, it is a very fluid area with alot of rented property. This works well for casual workers from everywhere who work in the manufacturing and distribution businesses. I would vote Tinsley as the most cosmopolitan town in Sheffield neeeeeeeeeek 14-01-2011, 12:02 It's grotty and thats fro someone who lives in Burngreave! It was also one of the worst places for air quality, I guess partly due to the M1. rabbitboots 28-07-2011, 15:39 was born on ferrars road in 1963, lived at 232, mi mums name was Judy and mi dad was Fred, one sister younger called Dawn.....
