I am moving to Sheffield soon , and do not know anyone at all.
I have an eighteen month old and a newborn and really need to meet some other mummies to stay sane.
i'm really not so eager to move as I will be leaving my family and my home city and so need to find some friends to ward off any risk of me getting post natal blues, if you know what i mean

so if any of you know about any such groups that can put me in touch with other mummies that will be a great help.

I will be moving to ranmoor if that helps

There is a group in Sheffield called the Childrens information service http://www.childrenfirst.org.uk/cis/

I moved here a few years ago similar situation -- except I couldn't get away from my home town fast enough :P

I do not know much of Sheffield so I do not know where abouts in the city you will be.

I do not know if you are interested but i am hoping to set up a mummy and kiddy group for mothers of pagan faiths.

Anyway - I hope you find that link useful.

I'm born & bred in Sheffield so can help you with questions about specific places etc. I am a teacher in Early Years Learning so have a bit of knowledge about what Sheffield has to offer.
I run a babysigning & singing class in the Ecclesall area of Sheffield (not far from Ranmoor) that both of your children & yourself will benefit from (you pay per family). I have made a wide circle of friends since my (1st) pregnancy thru NCT, yoga, aquanatal swimming.
There are hundreds of things for you to do - The CIS is a good place to start.
Happy to help

Hi,
I recently moved to Sheffield and away from my family and friends too so can appreciate your worries. We moved to Walkley, I do noy know where that is in relation to where you are moving, but my impression so far is that there are many mums around the Sheffield area and it is an incredibly children and family friemdly place. My daughter is nearly 4, so a bit older than yours, but do get in touch.

Hey,

My family and I moved all the way from Singapore last September. We have a 21 month old who is in desperate need of company to play with. I go to a toddler group but I think she needs to make some 'real' friends. I am actually still feeling my way around.

Do send me an e-mail if you have the same situation or a child/children we can be friends with!

The info on here is really useful. I'm new to the forum and i think its great. I'm mum to an 18 month old and i try to take her places all the time but i've never made it to a toddler group which i think she would benefit from loads!

Sheffield Anglican Cathedral is set to launch a new group for parents and young babies. Aimed especially at first-time parents, Little Fishes is an opportunity to come and enjoy the company of other parents, and chat over a cup of coffee and biscuits. Whatever your faith, this is a place to find friends, support, and fun in the welcoming cathedral community.

We'll be meeting on Wednesday afternoons from 2.45 to 4.15pm, beginning on the 11th October. Pram or wheelchair access is through the single doorway off the Cathedral forecourt. It will be led by Joanne Grenfell, who is a mum of two, as well as an Anglican priest, and Ann Ashworth, who works with children at the Cathedral.

Contact Canon Dr Joanne Grenfell (263 6064, or joanne.grenfell@sheffield-cathedral.org.uk) for more information.

Another new group(Jellytots) in the city centre will open on 30th October 2006 at the Victoria Methodist Mission on Chapel Walk (though no religious affiliation is required) on the lower ground floor every Mon, Wednesday and Friday between 1pm and 3pm.
It's a parent/carer and child drop in centre, though we'll welcome pregnant women and women with older children who are at school or nursery. It's all about freedom as a aprent, socialising for you and your child and an easy central space to get support, shop and stop and relax etc etc.

If you are moving to the S10 or S6 area check out the Walkley Community Centre website www.firstreet.org.uk. They have a playgroup wednesday mornings which is really brilliant and also Rocking Horse Music group on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays mornings. An excellent place to meet other people and keep the kids entertained.

for the mum moving to Hillsborough, there is a baby group running at Langsett at least twice a week, called playtime - in the St. Thomas' church buildings (kind of opposite Tesco), I know it runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 - 11.30 and is really friendly.

I've recently opened one because there was nothing in my area when I needed it, - so I opened one in the city centre for everyone.
We're open 3 days a week, Mon, Wed and Fri 1pm - 3pm at the Victoria Methodist Church on Chapel Walk, across the road from the Crucible Theatre. The entrances are on the left of the building down Chapel Walk then opposite the door to Superdrug or on the right of the building, beside Jumbo and down a doorway and set of stairs on the left.
There are signs to guide you through the building to our lower level rooms.
Easy access with pushchairs - even my twin pram goes through.
We provide hot and cold drinks and soups, drinks for kids, biscuits, breast feeding cushions, changing facilities, bottle warming, highchairs and £3,000 of toys, craft equipment and books from our grant funding.
Everyone is welcome, and if your child is newborn to aged 3 this is ideal.
For those days when older kids are off school, in holidays on or baker days - you can bring them too!
Find out more in the Parenting section of the forum at: http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=132606 and remind me about your free cuppa if you come down to see us!

Hi there
There is a playgroup at Walkley Community Centre every Wednesday morning 10 - 11.30. This is a totally secular building with no ties at all to any religous stuff at all. Visit the website www.firstreet.org.uk It has a map to find it.

hi im totally anti religious too so know what your on about, i go to a play group with my two year old twins at frecheville sheffield, althou its at a church hall there has never been any attempt to bible bash there way around the ladies who run it are lovely and altho they are god worshipers they dont inflict there beeliefs on anyone they do painting, baking, singing, arts and crafts etc my kids love it and it lasts for two hours for 1.00 per child and you get as many coffees as you want too. id highly recommend it. x

what difference does a building make in all honesty? Surely you're going to be there to meet the other mums and children, not looking around what is effectively a load of bricks?

Wizzzard

Jellytots only rent the room. The people who run it aren't religious, they just use the room so how should it affect you if that's where the rent is cheapest and the membership least expensive as a result?

Hi

I am also quite new to Sheffield and have an 8 week old daughter. I live in the Meersbrook area and am really keen to meet other mums or find a baby group close enough to walk to as I don't drive. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
thanks

For those of you who live near Hillsborough, there is a very friendly breast feeding group on Mondays 10:30-12:30 at the Hillsborough Junior Library. It's free and non-religious.

There is also a lovely mother-and-baby group in a building on Forbes Road, next to the church. Although it is connected to the church, there is no mention of religion at all and everybody is welcome. There are tons of toys and lots of drinks and biscuits, it's definitively worth it!
