I am looking at buying a flute, but not knowing much about them I need a beginners one from somewhere that won't rip me off and sell me things I don't need. Any recommendations?

View Full Version : Best place to buy a flute? kittenta 05-07-2007, 16:28 I am looking at buying a flute, but not knowing much about them I need a beginners one from somewhere that won't rip me off and sell me things I don't need. Any recommendations? Womerry2 05-07-2007, 16:33 Sheffield Music Services at the Bannerdale Centre will advise and might even be able to sell you one (at a useful discount) jpow112 05-07-2007, 17:21 I think Sheffield Music Shop on either Whitham Road or Hickmott road may help you - if it's for a child, then you can get a discount - via the education dept. kittenta 05-07-2007, 18:02 I'm a big kid, will that quailfy for a discount :hihi: I haven't heard of either of those places. Has anyone used them before? CHAIRBOY 05-07-2007, 19:02 I'm happy to endorse the Sheffield Music Shop on Whitham Road, situated between Moor Oaks Road and Parkers Road. They have a noticeboard and will advise you if anything is on offer. We have dealt with them with my daughter's oboe. elephantnellie 05-07-2007, 19:11 I've got an old one which i used to use which is only really good for a beginner...if you wanna have a look you can...only selling it for a fiver xx stanleeder 05-07-2007, 22:32 Wouldn't you rather have a clarinet? I've got one for sale. vicki85 06-07-2007, 09:26 I've played the flute for about 15 years now, although I didn't buy it in sheffield I can offer you some advice on what to look for and good brands for a beginner etc. PM me if you like. Vicki Bojolo 07-07-2007, 22:44 I am looking at buying a flute, but not knowing much about them I need a beginners one from somewhere that won't rip me off and sell me things I don't need. Any recommendations? I know this may ring alarm bells but try ebay. I got a brand new, red (yes red) flute for £47 pounds - that includes £12 p&p this was cheap because it was the last one. I didn't play a the time so had no idea about flutes but I do play other instruments and I thought it seemed top notch. Took it to the music teacher at school (I'm a teacher) and she was gob smacked at the quality and at the price. This is a link to the person I got mine from. She was lovely to deal with and I had no problems whatsoever. A lot of people will tell you not to buy the coloured ones because they aren't as good - like it makes a difference that the outside has bee sprayed! Mine has real wow factor with people. Its a great beginners instrument. Here is a link. You can check out the feedback and make up your own mind!! http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Petit-Cadeau if you do purchase say bojolo1980 sent you! whatever you do don't buy one from china they charge a ridiculous amount for p&p - find a company in the uk that imports like the one above. littleblue 08-07-2007, 22:42 I know its not in Sheffield but Top Wind in London are ace and also do mail order. Its better to buy something that isn't the cheapest as it'll do for a lot longer. I had TJ James as a beginner and wasn't taken on it - Gemenhart (however its spelled) is another one to bypass. Oh and Jupiter. The yamaha begineers are very good as are the Altus Azumino. Top wind will advise you well (been going to them for a good 10 years now) |
