Hi,
Are there any legal sites that will allow downloading and burning music ?
I have done a Google and found plenty sites claiming to be 100% legal. But are they? Prices range from 66p upwards.
Cheers

Allofmp3 (http://allofmp3.com/index.shtml?r=1457637976) is probably the best, very cheap and legal.

Itunes, Napster, Mycokemusic are 3 that I look at.

ive been thinking of the 10 pound a month to stream tracks from napster this option seems a lot better than actually burning the tracks as its something like 17 pounds for 20 tracks which is way 2 much ,,,, the other good thing about napster is that you can get pre paid access from various outlets so its handy if you dont have a credit card

tesco have started a download site had a look at it last week and there tracks are like 79p each or 7.99 for a complete album

hope that helps:) ::

Thanks everyone I had already looked at allofmp3, It has a Russian licence for what that is worth.Nowhere does it say anything about burning to cd.I have heard that tracks are very often valid for the one computer and is extra to copy to cd.
But thanks again I will check them all out.

Napster is for up to 3 machines and burning to cd if I'm remembering correctly. I've only got lite at the moment as I don't really download much at the moment and only want to listen to bits of tracks to see if I like them I will probably buy the prepay vouchers at some point in time!

You can do what you want with the tracks from Allofmp3 and to be honest it's a very good service and seriously cheap. You pick what encoding you want and it does it on the fly so it's ready to download nearly straight away, you might have to wait a minute (if it's cached then it's immediate). Bit uneasy that they stopped taking Paypal though - you could get away without giving Russians your CC details before... Makes you wonder why the service has been withdrawn.

As for it being legal I think you'll find that it's very very close to the line. The original argument they had was that they paid royalties to a body called ROMS on behalf of the artists under a licence agreement and that gave them the rights to distribute the music as in Russia you can publicly broadcast a phonogram with said licence. It's since seems to have become clear that ROMS don't have the ability to issue these licences anymore and so Allofmp3 aren't licenced anymore. But to be honest everyone still seems to be arguing about it and as long as you feel safe giving your CC details to Russians then it doesn't seem like you're about to get arrested for copyright infrigement.

what quality are these MP3 download programs though? Cus personally if I was paying to download songs off the net I'd want at least 256kb/s MP3's...

personally I get most of my stuff from http://www.oink.me.uk but it's not exactly legal :P why bother to spend £7.99 to download an album when you can probably get it in the sales for that price on CD? :P

On Allofmp3 you choose what bitrate you want and the type of encoding - the list is huge - mp3, ogg, wma, mp4, wma lossless, FLAC among others. The cost works out at $0.01 per mb using a lossy compression or $0.02 if you use lossless from the original CDDA track if I remember correctly. Basically you can get a 192kbps album for under a quid :D (and it's supposedly legal................ hmmm)

just trying that allofmp3 thing :) put $10 on... downloading some albums now, getting about 35kb/s... which isnt too bad a speed, 192kb/s mp3's... pretty funky if they are that decent quality and are legal

the selection they have is amazing though, theres only about 2 CD's I have that they dont... rare UK stuff, so I'll let them off ;)

Yeah but P2P apps are littered with virus infested files and fake stuff that isn't what it says it is and other annoyances.

I stopped using Kazaa Lite aaaaaaaaages ago cos I was fed up of fake renamed crap and kept getting viruses from it.

You don't need to tell me about getting illegal MP3's, and I laugh in the face of WinMX, by the time WinMX was popular it was already going downhill :P

there are better places to get MP3's illegally, I can get hold of pretty much anything I want, including most albums months before they're released... but for like 2p a track, why not get them legally? plus this "allofmp3" thing has a most amazing selection of albums, a rediculasly huge database of CD's...

I'll still probably download illegal MP3's... but I'm definitly going to use this thing to get stuff, its fast, it's supposedly legal, and it has a collection that I'd be hard to match with any of the sources I have!

I have been using allofmp3 for about a year no and never had any problems.

another one to try is mp3search.ru I think this is better then allofmp3. usually what you can't get from one you can get from the other. Mp3 search is a bit cheaper too

I won't be using that then. If you pay foir it that doesn't make it legal the site your using could be illegal. I use bearshare because i'm not paying for stuff if I can get it for free. Once I dont nedd a file I sanitize it to clear it of my pc
