There seems to be a lot of traffic coming off this roundabout to head into the city centre past office world (towards Fuel). The lights at the crossing seem to change frequently resulting in cars blocking the roundabout which results in tailbacks up the ringroad towards ecclesall road roundabout.
Im sure there didnt used to be so much traffic heading in that route. Where could they all be going? I doubt they all park in town for work.

This only seems to have started recently. Any ideas?

The council are wrecking the roads into total chaos so they can justify bringing in a congestion charge.

Diverting because of road closures following Gatecrasher fire?

Dont think so. Its been doing it since before the fire. Every morning now you see cars blocking the roundabout who are trying to get into town, up the road past Staples.

It looked to me as if the synchronisation of traffic lights might be out of kilter somewhere ahead maybe?

While I mention traffic lights on my last post Planner1, you may be interested in this. I work in Jessops Riverside office park at the end of Brightside Lane. During the flood we were on TV! Anyway, after the flood, many traffic lights were out of action for a few days, including the ones from our exit road onto Brightside Lane. During this period the traffic flowed so much better along the road, and also allowed people out of our office park much more smoothly too!

Further down Brightside Lane, past the Post Ofice building towards town, there are more lights that are on a timer. Problem is, the lights allow traffic out of an industrial estate to the left. There are hardly ever any cars coming out of it. So all of the flow of traffic down Brightside Lane comes to a regular halt for no reason at all. After the flood, these lights were out and the traffic was bliss.

Has anyone in the planning department ever considered reviewing such traffic lights to see of they are causing more problems than they are solving?

I just wish they would cut back the trees in the middle of the roundabout, you can not see the cars speeding around the thing.

Wasn't there something about this recently, they were going to do away with traffic lights altogether, I think it was in Ipswich. It was supposed to be an experiment to see if it actually improved traffic flow. Does anyone know what happened with this?

Probably because of the work at the top of the Moor. It means that going up Charter Row is pointless if you want to head into to town.

here here. They are making it a rat run and one way system so that everybody has to join a queue to get anywhere. Then they'll have an excuse to try and recoup the revenue by charging us to drive around our own city.

the roundabout seems to be much busier in a morning & there seems to be more congestion on the roundabout because of the "keep clear" areas that have now appeared in the last few months - cars are entering the roundabout, getting halfway around, realising they cannot exit as there is a queue and because of the Keep Clears they are having to stop further back from the exit road - now this is fine, I quite agree, but then cars from the entrance road that you're waiting behind just take the mick & keep going & keep going and you don't get a chance to carry onto your exit road without taking a risk of one of the cars from the left hitting you! I know it should then be your right of way as you're already on the roundabout but in the morning rush hour they don't seem to realise this!

Also, there are road works on London road (I think) so maybe more people are using Bramall Lane???
