Vellum is great for softening bright paper by overlaying on cards, to use as butterfly or fairy wings for card making, or as the basis for parchment craft, or Pergamano. Brazillian papercraft uses this to amazing effects too. Can be chalked, or stamped on with rubber stamps, but not easily heat embossed (takes practice) and I use it to make sweet little envelopes for scrapbooking.
Try looking up parchment craft on google and see what comes up!

Try tearing vellum rather than cutting. Then, ink or chalk the torn edges and use it as a background, the tearing/inking thing makes it look a bit like old manuscript etc. Quite good if you want a vintage feel. Cheers.
