I've yet to go to sleep. Didn't take any photos, but I DID watch it come up in black and white over several places in Sheff and then it suddenly snap into colour.

WTF! First time I've woken up to sunshine and no clouds in about 2 months!

This is truly a thing to celebrate.

This link was originally posted on the Walkers Group - these were taken on the Summer Solstice - 21st June just over 2 weeks ago, at 03:15 I noticed the sky was clear and it was starting to get light so I drove out to Owler Bar and took these snapshots.

First picture was taken at approx 03:50 and the sun came up at 04:31. The last picture of the green woodpecker was at the Park Grange Croft tram stop on my way back home.

Wow, they are nice photo's.

What the 'eck were you doing up at that time, was it by choice? I must admit that I don't think that I have ever seen 4am in it's glory, I will have either been too tired to open the blinds or too drunk to take notice!

Hi babelicious,

The Walking group had originally planned an overnight walk on the Solstice, setting off around 11pm walking over the moors and then seeing the sunrise over Sheffield from the top of Totley Moor. Unfortunately this walk was cancelled due to forcast cloud and rain. I think I just psyched myself up in anticipation of staying up all night and couldn't sleep - so when I noticed the sky was unexpectedly clear I just jumped in my car and headed out to take these pictures.
