I'm due in April.
Haven't joined any sort of mum to be club yet, but I'm told that the ante-natal classes are a good way of meeting people locally. Hopefully find out more in th next few weeks.

Congratulations - i have a baby due at the end of January so she will probably be a Feb babe too!
Parentcraft classes are good for meeting people, there are some ante natal yoga/meditation classes somewhere in Sheffield too, not sure of the details but can get hold of the womans phone no. for you if you are interested.
Also try netmums.com/sheffield - although the site does not have loads on it there are some groups listed:)
Creswick Street Young Childrens Centre on the Langset estate in Hillsborough runs a group that is currently monthly, but will increase to twice a month from january.
Its very informal, can attend if you dont have children in the nursery too. Its on a Tuesday afternoon1.15-3.30 and you can stay for as long or as little as you want. The next group is Tuesday 11th January, you could email creswickstycc@lea.sheffield.sch.uk or ring 2335197 further the time for verification if you wanted.
Would really appreciate seeing you there. If you want more info on bus and tram stops then im only too happy to help. We are lucky in that we are on both a tram and a bus stop route! Good luck.
tinkabel 09-12-2004, 21:11 Thanks so much for all your replies, i've had great fun checking out the websites etc today and tomorrow i'm going to go to that childrens place in town for more information. Thanks again.
FairyNormal 09-12-2004, 21:22 You could try THIS (http://www.netmums.com/login/not_logged_in.php?returnArea=sheffield&area_ID=103)
No expecting another baby myself (thank heavens!!) but came accross this site whilst searching for parent support in Sheffield.
Hope it's of some use to you and congrats!!
smellie1 10-12-2004, 11:30 Congratulations
I'm due in February too! have been attending ante natal classes for a few weeks and have made a few local friends. The aqua natal class Thursdays, 7pm at Hillsborough leisure centre is great and is run by midwives, but by Thursday I'm generally too tired to go!
Congratulations...and good luck for Feb. I had a boy in Jan 2003 and another in March 2004 so I can definately recommend it!
The children's information service in Sheffield is fantastic at sending out info for all that is in your area...0114 275 6699
Also I found NCT groups a life saver in the early days and through them have made some great friends I see weekly. (CIS will have the tel number of your nearest contact - not sure..where is Lowedges?)

ask your midwife, they should be able to give you info :)
If you don't find anything suitable. You can always tell you doctor that you wish to start a group and they will inform other mums to be in the area of how to contact you.
FairyNormal 10-12-2004, 16:34 When I was pregnant with my second, I saw the same old faces at the ante-natal at the GP's surgery. Some of us exchanged numbers etc and became good friends. Once my son was born, we got together at each others houses on a rota basis once a week. We did this until they were about 2 years old and we had all run out of space for lots of screaming toddlers!! We then moved on to the local mum and toddler group.
Just chatting to other mums at the doctors can be a great source of support and in my case, has lead to lasting friendships for both me and my son. Give it a try ..... what have you got to lose?!
My mum is still friends with a woman (and her family) when they were both in hopsital giving birth (not at the same time or in the same room).
This was 17 years ago, my mum even used to child mind this woman's son!

Also find out about stuff from you health visitor and doctor eg pram pushes, baby massage and aquababes.
Also try Simunye - cafe on London Road next to Wasabi Sabi which, is child friendly and has real life breast feeding mentors there every Thurs morn between 10 and 12.
Good luck with the birth

My wife helps run a mums group called PETALS on Lowedges. They meet on Wednesdays at Lowedges School Community Wing at 1.30pm. There is also a toddler group at South Sheffield Evangelical Church that has loads of mums going on Friday mornings.

Lucy-Lastic 13-04-2005, 18:07 Hi
Congratulations. Sharrow Sure Start would be a brilliant place to start - they have an office on London road and would hold loads of info on groups local to you. They do a Breastfeeding Cafe in Simuneye on Thursdays I think which may or maynot be useful for you (I help run something similar in the Hillsborough area and its really lovely in a social way aswell as giving people useful information on breastfeeding). Other than that contact the Childrens Information service either by phone or via there web site they will send you the information really quickly.
Good luck for June

Thanks for the info,
Hope you found what you were looking for in your area. i`m in the same situation. And have found the information Threaded really healpfull.
Sharrow sure start, Simunye cafe for breastfeeding advice sounds great for after the babys due. its a bit of a walk but hey cheap exersise .
Also i will get in touch with the Childrens information service in Sheffeild for any groups/meetings for new mums around Endcliffe prk, Sharrow, Greystones and Broomhall. If anyone is in these areas and wants to start a meetind grp get in touch.
There are NCT groups all over Sheffield, I started to going to Crookes Broomhill group 2 months before my daughter was born and they are very welcoming to new people!
The Crookes group would probably be near to you or maybe the Eccleshall/Bradway group - but that group covers a massive area (all the way to Hope Valley). I think they both meet on Tuesday mornings
babycakesuk 14-04-2005, 18:40 I'm also due in April well today actually lol no sign of lo yet tho I'm based in gleadless and surestart run loads of groups in and around this area rangeing from pre and anti natal groups a breast feeding cafe and a family swim session that is very resonably priced hope this helps
Thanks
I`ll contact sure start , feels like it`s a good idea to make some contacts before the baby is born, whille i still have the energy. anybody planning to go to baby massage this July/Aug 2005 wrote down this number down last night at antal-natal class 0114-2360472.
My name is Emma I have two twin buggies for sale one of them is a side by side one complete with rain cover and the make is Maclaren. This pram has only been used a couple of times and is like new. It is blue and purple. It cost me £150 new I will accecpt £40. 07776351013
The second one is a tandom twin buggy with shopping basket and rain hoods. This is a Graco make, I will accept £10 for this one as it has had alot of use. But still in good condition. 07776351013
Also my 2 year old child attends Stannington community centre nursery which is open to children aged 2 and over. The days it runs are Monday Thursday and Friday. You can leave your child there while you have time for yourself. The sessions are £2.75 and are from 9:15 - 11:45 am. My child loves it they make things and learn there colours and numbers. The staff are lovely. You just need to bring a change of nappies if your child is still not potty trained.
Have you tried Surestart ?
