Hi everyone,

I am at the stage when I am going to go and start trying on dresses. I have been engaged for just over a year and told myself I wasn't allowed to try on dresses until i was back in my favorite pair of jeans. I haven't been able to fit in them for 3 years. I have lost just over 2 stone in 12 weeks and I wore my favorite jeans this weekend. Yey!!!
So it is time for me to try on some dresses. I haven't got a clue what to do?? Do I ring up and book an appiontment?? What underwear should I wear to try dresses on? Who should I take with me?? So many questions!! I need so help if anyone can advise i will be very grateful.
Thanks.

I would recommend to go to Freya Bride, Ecclesall - Ive ordered my dress from there and the women were fantastic!!

I would decide which shops you want to go to and then ring them to see if you need to book an appointment - some say you do but others are pretty ok with you just turning up!!

Good luck with your dress shopping!

Hiya. Yes most of the time you have to make a appointment, it will take aprox 1hour to try 5-6 dresses on, take your mum or bridesmaid with you
(they will be honest with you) don't decide on the day, you need to go away and really decide if you have found your dream dress or not. do your hair and some make up before you go. oh and a strapless bra. Most of all enjoy yourself x

and tell me how you lost the weight :hihi: congrats hun, have fun and I hope you find your dream dress!

I started Slimming world in January. I have been doing it with my OH. I have lost just over 2 stone and he has lost nearly 4 stone. I have another 2 to loose but i am getting there. I have dropped 2 dress sizes since starting so I am very pleased. Can't wait to get trying on some dresses.
Thanks for the tip on the strapless bra. What sort of pants should I wear my tummy is my worst bit? I was thinking of wearing magic knickers???

emharrison
14-04-2008, 20:04
SMK79 dont wear magic knickers - but if you want take them with you, its best to see how dresses look naturally on you, and then if it looks good with a bit of a tummy then you know how amazing it will look without. although it doesnt matter, you do really need to know what your budget is, as the last thing you want to do is try a dress on and then realise you just cant afford it.

most importantly though is have fun and try not to book too many appointments in one day, spread them out so you can go and get a coffee, or glass of wine and digest which ones you liked and didnt with your entourage.

It should be great fun and one of the most special times for your mum (or other family/friends you are sharing it with) and you to do together so make sure you get the most from it.

alot of brides like shops for different reasons but dont give up if you cant find a dress or felt uncomfortable in one shop, just go to another and start again!!. Good luck, when i open my shop, i hope to see you there!!!

I want to recommend Townend Florist at Gleadless. I cant remember the lady's name but I have been and had a consultation with her today and she is so down to earth, and her prices are very competitive.

Thanks Em, your right about the tummy thing. I have dropped 2 dress sizes in 12 weeks so I know I can loose more before the big day.
I am looking forward to coming to your new shop. Can't wait to try on Ulrika!!!

My mum can make dresses and does alterations, it depends on what you are wanting though if you want to give her a ring let me know and I will pass her details on to you.

other than that there is Avorio, in west 1 who make dresses from scratch

I like the look of the Paloma Blanca dresses..will be looking for my dress in the next 6 months-was thinking about Blushes or La Bella brides...how much are the Paloma Blanca dresses? what is the price range? because I don't want to spend over £1000.

What about price of bridesmaid dresses? I'll be looking for some short dark purple dresses too.

Cheers and good luck with it!

Just come across this web site and it looks quite good, I had a go at designing a bridesmaid dress and it looked really good for £149. Saw this site advertised in This Morning too.

I would recommend Blissful Daze on West Street. Did put a thread on here last night to say that they have put some posters in their window yesterday to say on 1 June 2008 they are having a one day sale but don't know where that thread went! Might be worth a look.

I went to Blissful Daze and found all their dresses expensive but mucky as well! I was not impressed at all.

I got my dress from Freya Bride (across from Endcliffe Park) and I cannot fault them at all. The ladies there are very helpful and the dresses are beautiful!!

Hello, I have recently started making wedding cakes (and other celebration cakes), and have had a couple in Pronuptia on Ecclesall road- will be putting lovely rose petal cupcake cascade in the tomorrow if you fancy a look, and a cake!.

I tend towards more simple, contemporary designs but will work around any ideas. I hand make all the sugar decorations, bar the odd exception so that each cake is a one off design.

Check my sig for the link...
